About ASC

ASC is Australia’s submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats’ service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia’s national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Fabrication Superintendent to lead fabrication operations within a complex, safety-critical heavy engineering environment. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for technical governance, workforce capability, and delivery performance across fabrication and welding operations.

You will work closely with Engineering, Quality, Planning, and Supply Chain teams to ensure work is delivered safely, compliantly, and to schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strong technical leadership across fabrication and welding disciplines
  • Lead welding governance including PQR, WQR, and WPS development and control
  • Ensure fabrication activities comply with approved procedures, standards, and work instructions
  • Lead and develop trade-based teams, including workforce planning, utilisation, and performance management
  • Drive a proactive safety culture and ensure adherence to quality and compliance requirements
  • Manage fabrication performance against schedule and delivery targets
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated outcomes
  • Oversee materials, consumables, and equipment to support efficient workshop operations

About You

You are a practical, results-driven leader with strong fabrication and welding expertise. You bring credibility on the workshop floor, set clear expectations, and lead your teams with confidence and accountability.

Experience \& Skills

  • Extensive experience in fabrication and welding within heavy engineering or defence environments
  • Demonstrated experience managing welding systems (PQR/WQR/WPS)
  • Proven leadership of trades-based workforces
  • Strong understanding of safety, quality, and regulated operating environments
  • Experience delivering work to structured schedules and performance metrics

Eligibility

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.

  • Generous parental leave
  • Subsidised childcare
  • Health and wellbeing initiatives
  • Professional development opportunities
  • A diverse and supportive environment
