PURPOSE
To ensure the safe, reliable, efficient and sustainable operations of the BHIG rotating equipment. Managing the rotating maintenance activities with the Planner, Operations, and Engineering teams and is responsible for coordinating, organizing, and executing the PM overhauls and preventative and corrective maintenance activities. The aim is to reduce maintenance related costs while improving plant reliability and availability, in line with business needs for facilities which range across multiple technologies such as Air Separation (ASU), Steam Methane reformer (HYCO), and CO2, along with ancillary equipment to support the facility.
NATURE \& SCOPE
The Rotating Equipment Specialist reporting to the Maintenance Manager is accountable for the safe and reliable operations for all the rotating equipment in the JIGH, SATORP and SASREF sites.
The position requires the management of a team of Technicians to achieve a high maintenance standard by providing day-to-day support, safe and effective execution and support the reliable and efficient operation of our rotating equipment. Execute all the preventative and corrective maintenance activities for all sites with the intention of improving the MTBF, MTTR and reliability of the rotating equipment. Lead and co-ordinate the activities with service providers and ensure that all protocols, QCPs and standards are conducted and achieved. Act as an SME for rotating equipment root cause analysis and maintenance strategy development and optimization. Technical report writing and the ability to clearly and articulately explain to Senior Management is a requirement. The coaching and mentoring of the junior Technicians on rotating equipment maintenance practices is required with hands on execution. The position will work closely with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure the scope of work is executed safely and reliably. Ensure that the critical spares have sufficient quantity, refurbished to the correct standard, preserved correctly, and are as specified on delivery.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
SAFETY
- Provide and maintain a safe work environment.
- Demonstrate leadership with company and industry safe work practices to prevent injuries.
- Ensure proper implementation and documentation is maintained for safety related activities.
- Complete a comprehensive and value-added risk assessment or JSA depending on the risk factor, nature and complexity of the task.
- Conduct APTs and lead safety investigations and improvements regarding rotating equipment.
- Ensure compliance from the Maintenance team regarding safe execution promoting a safe work
TECHNICAL
- Execute hands on maintenance activities for troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and test activities.
- Provide maintenance and technical support during the commissioning of the rotating equipment.
- Maintain accurate document control and monitor quality assurance initiatives to maintain history.
- Must be able to read and interpret vibration spectrums.
- Ensure that all the vibration, temperature and rod drop probes are set correctly and functional.
- Analyze the process parameters from DCS trends with the intent of predicting future failures and rotating equipment performance.
- The ability to troubleshoot the root cause of failures based on operating conditions and apply the correct maintenance required.
- Apply and demonstrate knowledge in both laser and DTI alignment techniques.
- Ensure that any alignment temperature compensating factors are applied for hot applications.
- Ensure that holt bolting is applied to piping systems for hot applications.
- Apply and demonstrate knowledge in measuring out and coaching the team to conduct piston bumping clearance, crank shaft deflection, crankcase deflection, piston run-out corrections, crosshead guide alignment, journal and main bearing to crank shaft clearance measurements.
- Initiate an inspection program focusing on the critical equipment vibration, temperature and pressure monitoring by completing a daily/weekly inspection sheet. These deviations to be noted and work requests to be created in SAP.
- Provide maintenance input for scheduled outages to ensure effective planning and execution
- Assist in the development and execute the preventative / predictive maintenance program to ensure scheduled maintenance activities are completed and remain in compliance.
- In cooperation with Engineering execute a reliability program to achieve operational excellence by sustaining equipment operation and drive productivity to increase efficiency.
- Achieve the best MTBF, MTTR and reliability metrics related to rotating equipment.
- Development of work instructions for ease of reference and execution for the maintenance team.
- Provide input for the critical spares inventory and follow-up on delivery and lead times.
- Provide input into the execution plan for the major PM overhauls during the shutdowns and TAR
- Ensure compliance with the condition monitoring program by following up with Engineering on the trends analysis and corrective actions.
- To complete technical reports of all major repairs and PM overhauls for critical rotating equipment.
- To develop a shared folder with all rotating equipment, specifications, spares, special tools, repairs and major overhauls including RCAs and MOCs.
- To maximize the availability and safety of critical compression assets while minimizing unplanned downtime in production environments.
- Applying asset management techniques to monitor the integrity of the critical equipment on-line run time by applying condition monitoring techniques for vibration, temperature and packing leakage rates. This information must be logged and analyzed to implement corrective actions before catastrophic failures with the objective of increasing the life cycle of the equipment.
- Verify and conduct piping strain corrections and confirm that vibration dampeners, supports and grouting are in good condition.
- Be able to overhaul cryogenic services oxygen pumps and maintain a clean room for oxygen service as part of primary responsibility.
- Must be able to handle, assemble and install mechanical seals and have the ability to identify the failure modes.
- Must be able to handle and co-ordinate the removal, installation and repairs to dry gas seals.
- Must be familiar with the different mechanical seal plans and their required maintenance to ensure the effective function of the mechanical seals.
- Ensure that the tools, nitrogen and gauge manifolds are available to measure the bladder nitrogen pressure for the pulsation dampeners.
- Develop a toolbox for each critical equipment ensuring that all the special tools and consumables are available to conduct maintenance. The toolboxes must be repacked and restored with all tools and consumables before placing in the store after each overhaul.
- Ensure the safety of all maintenance personnel by utilizing the BHIG Basic Safety Practice program, which includes Safety Work Permits, LOTO, Confined Space, etc. The position is a key member in building the Air Products safety culture into the BHIG.
- Understand Environmental Regulatory requirements and contain all oil spillages and dispose correctly.
- Ensure Air Products and BHIG standards, and best practices for EH\&S, productivity, reliability, quality, and overall customer services are met. In some cases, the safety objectives for SATORP and SASREF will be applicable.
- Monitor and execute preventative and corrective maintenance activities pertaining to the rotating equipment, to ensure operation and reliability targets are achieved.
- Maintain equipment maintenance document integrity through accurate technical reports. Ensure that the protocols and QCPs are completed for all rotating equipment overhauls.
- Supervise and coordinate rotating service providers with all site related activities, ensuring the focus is on quality and reliability.
- Coordinating with the operations and engineering teams to rectify rotating equipment issues and implementing cost effective solutions.
- Achieve and maintain operations excellence and customer satisfaction through maintenance productivity, reliability, quality, and cost reduction efforts.
- Provide maintenance support and participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis. Identify and implement sustainable corrective action(s).
- Leading the rotating activities during turnarounds (TAR), including, preparation of job packages, spares and materials, contractors and tools and safety management during execution.
- Support on-call activities when required and help with rotating recommendations outside of normal working hours when consulted.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have at least 15 years demonstrated competency in oil and gas industry on rotating equipment which includes reciprocating, centrifugal, screw, lobe and diaphragm compressors.
- Must have demonstrated knowledge and experience in oil and gas industry of leading reciprocating, centrifugal and screw compressor overhauls.
- Must have hands-on experience working with reciprocating compressors and pump overhauls.
- Must have knowledge and be able to overhaul cryogenic pumps especially in oxygen service, centrifugal pumps, positive displacement pumps, high‑speed integral pumps (e.g., Sundyne LMV models), screw, gear, and dosing pumps.
- Must be able to understand, apply and achieve all the reliability metrics regarding rotating equipment.
- Must have at least 10 years’ experience in a Leadership, Supervisory and Management role in therotating equipment maintenance environment.
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering or maintenance management in rotating equipment is desirable.
- Vibration level 1 and 2 certification will be advantageous.
- Must be able to manage a team’s development ensuring that proper IDPs are in place, implemented and monitored to improve the team’s rotating equipment knowledge and competence.
- Must be able to coach and mentor the team by leading the equipment overhauls and ensuring effective knowledge transfer.
- Must be able to performance manage a team to encourage and ensure a high-performance culture
- Strong organizational, planning, scheduling, interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
- Must be able to coordinate and communicate across functions to ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Proficiency in speaking, reading and writing in English.
- Knowledge and understanding of local environmental and health and safety requirements.
- Knowledge of service provider contracts and technical support in the region is desirable.
