As the Systems Administrator you will run the IT backbone of an entire family office group — servers, identity, virtualization, security, and second-tier support across multiple operating businesses. This is a hands-on, ownership-heavy role for an experienced sysadmin who wants real responsibility, modern infrastructure, and a security-forward team.
You’ll own the day-to-day operation of the servers, storage, virtualization, identity, and security tooling that keep the Lorval group running — and you’ll have real latitude to harden the environment, automate the routine, and bring discipline to the work that matters most. You’ll report to the Manager, IT Infrastructure \& Security and work alongside the Network Administrator and IT Technicians. The IT Technicians handle tier-1 — your seat is for the work that needs more than a quick fix.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Server \& Infrastructure Operations — Maintain and support the server, storage, virtualization, and SAN infrastructure that runs the Lorval group. Monitor performance and availability. Keep things running cleanly and catch problems before users do.
- Identity \& Access Management — Administer Active Directory and Entra ID — user accounts, group policy, conditional access, role assignments, and the rest of the identity surface that sits at the centre of every modern environment.
- Microsoft 365 Administration — Own the Microsoft 365 tenant — Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, security and compliance configuration. Keep it tidy, current, and well-governed.
- Security Hardening — Partner with the Manager, IT Infrastructure \& Security on patching cadence, endpoint protection, and the day-to-day security hygiene work that quietly keeps the lights on.
- Backup \& Disaster Recovery — Run, test, and verify backup and recovery operations using Veeam, Acronis, or equivalent tooling. Treat a backup that has not been tested as a backup that does not exist.
- Tier-2 Support — Take the escalations the IT Technicians can’t close. Diagnose methodically, communicate clearly, and leave better documentation behind than you found.
- Project Delivery — Lead and contribute to infrastructure projects — upgrades, migrations, new platform rollouts, and the larger initiatives the team takes on each year.
- Documentation \& Automation — Document what you build and what you change. Use PowerShell to automate repetitive work so it stops being repetitive.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of system administration experience in a professional environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field — or equivalent experience.
- Hands-on experience administering Windows Server, Active Directory / Entra ID, and Microsoft 365.
- Working knowledge of virtualization (VMware vSphere or Hyper-V), storage systems, and networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, VLANs, VPN).
- Practical experience with backup and disaster recovery tools (Veeam, Acronis, or equivalent).
- Disciplined approach to documentation, change management, and operational procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communication — able to translate technical issues for non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational skills with a disciplined approach to documentation, operational procedures, and change management.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- This role is a 100% in-office position and will require in-person collaboration with IT team members and business stakeholders across multiple operating companies.
“Nice to Haves”
- Security certifications (Security+, SSCP) or equivalent Microsoft certifications (MS-102, AZ-500).
- Experience supporting multiple entities or business units within a parent organization.
- Proficiency with PowerShell for automating routine administration tasks.
- Familiarity with Nutanix, Linux, or manufacturing/industrial IT environments.
