We are seeking a highly analytical, driven, and experienced Mfg Ops Engineer to manage contract manufacturing vendor relationships and drive operational excellence in our high-velocity manufacturing operations. In this role, you will lead the end-to-end strategic partnership with vendors providing critical design, development, manufacturing, and integration services for AWS servers and rack integration. You will be responsible for optimizing vendor performance across cost, quality, capacity, delivery, compliance, and sustainability while ensuring efficient manufacturing capacity and timely delivery of products to AWS data centers globally.
As a Tech Ops Engineer, you will act as the primary point of escalation for all vendor-related issues, manage material flow and logistics, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. This role requires exceptional leadership in delivering detailed plans to execute complex rack build deployments while collaborating with cross-functional teams including hardware engineering, supply chain, quality, lifecycle management, operations, compliance, and sustainability.
Key job responsibilities
Vendor Management \& Operational Excellence
Day-to-day management responsibility for high-velocity assembly operations
Act as point of escalation for all vendor-related issues including production, engineering, business continuity planning, and quality
Manage vendor operational excellence through data-driven metrics and continuous improvement activities
Lead quality defect evaluation and internal escalation/coordination for complex corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
Influence partner processes, technologies, and policies to achieve mutual benefits for both organizations in a sustainable manner
Manage multi-discipline hardware development teams across CM/OEM/ODM vendors
Supply Chain \& Materials Management
Manage material flow and logistics to enable manufacturing execution
Deep dive and solve supply chain blockages that affect rack delivery SLAs
Analyze production schedules and demand forecasts, ensuring customer requirements are met while maximizing site utilization
Drive material reuse opportunities, improving AWS's overall circular supply chain
Lead and orchestrate the flow of materials, testing scripts, and BOM deployment at manufacturing sites
Process Improvement \& Engineering
Drive cross-functional strategic initiatives to improve supply chain efficiency and overall cost structure
Own process engineering optimization and cost reduction initiatives for sustaining projects
Guide best practices on manufacturing including process control, line optimization, tool effectiveness, and repeatability \& reproducibility (R\&R)
Propose design changes that will enhance product sustainability
Evaluate product Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and drive multi-system process and system changes
Conduct system-level analysis to optimize production operations
Analysis \& Strategic Planning
Drive complex business analysis to identify opportunities to improve internal and external processes
Design and maintain scalable, reliable analytical tools, dashboards, and metrics to drive key decisions and resource prioritization
Develop and implement innovative sourcing strategies that meet AWS's cost objectives through in-depth analysis of cost drivers and bill of materials
Craft compelling data-driven narratives and presentations that inform strategic decision-making
Use written communications to influence product strategy
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work cross-functionally to identify and apply best practices and continuous process improvements
Influence internal technical teams to drive multi-system process and system changes
Set project requirements and drive results across internal and external teams
Building and maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders in Supply Chain, Design Engineering, Quality, Deployment, and product leadership
Mentor team members on best practices for manufacturing engineering
Engage and influence senior executives on operational

1. Review production metrics and KPIs from high-velocity assembly operations, identifying and addressing immediate escalations
2. Attend cross-functional meetings with procurement, logistics, and manufacturing stakeholders to discuss supply chain initiatives
3. Analyze vendor performance metrics and lead discussions to drive continuous improvement
4. Conduct deep analysis of supply chain steps from pre-order to post-shipment to enable order flow
5. Collaborate with technical teams on system changes to improve cross-functional process efficiencies
6. Meet with vendor partners to discuss process improvements, technology upgrades, and partnership strategies
7. Review production schedules and demand forecasts, making adjustments to balance efficiency and flexibility
8. Reflect on daily activities and plan continuous improvement initiatives focused on lowering risks and reducing lead times
