Job Description

At ZIWI, we're on a mission to elevate every pet to their peak, every day of their life.

As one of Aotearoa New Zealand's leading pet food exporters and a global leader in premium pet nutrition, we're proud to craft world-class products using ethically sourced New Zealand ingredients. Backed by private equity, we're a fast-paced, ambitious business that's continually evolving, investing in our people and expanding our global reach.

Our values of Teamwork, Ownership and Agility are at the heart of everything we do. They shape how we work together, solve challenges, make decisions and deliver exceptional outcomes for our customers, our partners and, ultimately, the pets we nourish around the world.

We're looking for a Food Safety Quality Technician to join our Food Safety \& Quality team on a 12-month fixed-term contract based at our Awatoto manufacturing site.

This fixed-term role has been created to provide dedicated support for key Food Safety and Quality initiatives that will strengthen site compliance, enhance quality systems and drive continuous improvement across our manufacturing operations. Reporting to the FSQ Lead, you'll play an important role in ensuring our premium pet food products consistently meet the highest standards of quality, food safety and regulatory compliance while contributing to projects that will have a lasting impact on the business.

What you'll be doing

  • Provide day-to-day technical and quality support to operations.
  • Ensure daily quality control measures are being achieved and conduct product checks to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Verify the accuracy and integrity of production records, documentation, and quality data.
  • Investigate product and process non-conformances, proactively identify non-conformances, monitor GMP compliance, and support a strong food safety and quality culture on the production floor.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality systems, operational processes, and site performance, while supporting cross-functional and innovation projects.
  • Lead internal audits, site verification activities, and administration of the Risk Management Programme (RMP).
  • Support external audits, liaise with MPI, and ensure compliance with HACCP, SQF, regulatory, and internal quality requirements.
  • Support validation and verification of manufacturing processes and critical control points.
  • Assist with customer complaint investigations and implementation of complaint reduction initiatives.
  • Coordinate calibration of quality equipment and maintain associated records.
  • Promote compliance with Health \& Safety, environmental, food safety, and quality standards.
  • Participate in Leadership reviews and support the ongoing effectiveness of the Food Safety \& Quality Management System.
  • Develop, deliver and coach food safety, GMP and quality training to the operational and warehouse teams.
  • Manage and maintain the site's HACCP and prerequisite programmes. About you

You'll be someone who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, enjoys working collaboratively across teams and takes pride in maintaining high standards. You're naturally organised, detail-oriented and confident working across multiple teams to deliver quality outcomes.

You're passionate about food safety and quality and take pride in maintaining high standards in everything you do. You'll have experience in a Food Safety, Quality Assurance or Quality Control role within the food, pet food or FMCG manufacturing industry, along with a sound understanding of HACCP, Risk Management Programmes (RMP) and food safety systems.

You're a practical problem solver with strong technical knowledge, exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate documentation. A confident communicator, you're able to build strong relationships, working collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes while living our values of Teamwork, Ownership and Agility.

Why join ZIWI?

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a business that's continuing to grow and innovate on the global stage. You'll work alongside experienced leaders, be part of a supportive and collaborative team, and have the opportunity to make a genuine impact through meaningful Food Safety and Quality projects.

If you're passionate about food safety, quality and continuous improvement, we'd love to hear from you!

Applicants must have New Zealand residency or hold a valid New Zealand work visa to be considered for this opportunity.
