Te whiwhinga mahi - Our opportunity

This is a great entry point into a professional career in tax within a large, complex and purpose-driven organisation. As an Assistant Tax Accountant, youll be embedded within a supportive tax and broader Finance team and gain hands-on experience across the full tax compliance and reporting lifecycle - from monthly GST and PAYE through to FBT, provisional tax and annual income tax processes. Youll work with real data, real deadlines, and real business challenges, building the kind of practical capability that sets you up strongly for your next step in tax or broader finance.

Youll be supported by experienced tax professionals who will guide you through technical concepts, review your work, and help you build confidence in a structured, compliance-driven environment. Along the way, youll develop strong analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder skills, working closely with teams across Finance as well as external stakeholders such as Inland Revenue.

This is a 6-month fixed-term opportunity designed to give you meaningful, real-world experience and accelerate your early career development. While there is no guarantee of extension beyond the fixed term, youll leave with a solid foundation of technical tax knowledge, practical experience across a full compliance cycle, and exposure to a large-scale organisation - all of which will position you strongly for future opportunities in tax, accounting or finance.

  • Strong attention to detail with a proactive approach You take pride in delivering accurate, high-quality work within a compliance-focused environment. You recognise when to pause and seek guidance, while still maintaining momentum-demonstrating initiative and taking responsibility for your own development.

At the same time, youre curious and improvement-focused - bringing ideas forward constructively and checking in with the team before making changes to ensure alignment.
