Social Media Strategist
Job Description

Position: Social Media Strategist cum Producer
Type: Full-time
Salary: Competitive, based on experience
Location: Petaling Jaya, Malaysia (on-site)
Reports to: Founder, working alongside the Account Manager and production team

About the Role

StoryArc Media is a digital marketing and video production agency. We are not a phone-content agency. Our signature is camera-quality production and storytelling, and we tell those stories for corporate, healthcare, F\&B, education, and real-estate brands.

This is a social-first role. You own what our clients say on social and why: the content strategy, the monthly angles, the formats, the hooks. Then, and this is the part most strategy roles don’t have, you go on set and direct the shoot that brings it to life, and you QC the cut before it reaches the client.

So it is two halves. You need both. If you plan brilliant content but have never stood on a set, or you run great shoots but have never had to make a brand grow on TikTok, this is not your role.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the content strategy across our client accounts. Set the direction for each brand: what they post, why, in what format, to whom. Build the monthly content plans and the angles behind them.
  • Concept and ideate at volume. Generate campaign ideas, content angles, and formats month after month, for multiple brands at once, turning each brand’s story into content people actually stop for.
  • Live on the platforms. Know what is working on TikTok, Instagram (Reels), YouTube (Shorts and long-form), Facebook, and Eurostaffs this month, not last year. Hooks, retention, formats, trends, posting cadence. Maintain a strong reference bank; part of this job is genuinely scrolling.
  • Direct shoots. Be on all major shoots holding the creative vision on set, guiding videographers, talent, and the look so the footage matches the concept.
  • Own creative quality. Vet and QC content across every client account before it reaches the client. Is it on-brand, on-brief, and up to our production standard?
  • Lead 1–2 accounts client-facing. Act as the account lead for a small number of clients: run briefs, present content plans and ideas, manage the relationship, and keep the account moving.
  • Align the team. Brief and direct videographers, editors, and designers to the creative vision; keep everyone working to the same concept and standard.
  • Own timelines and delivery. Plan content calendars ahead of the posting month, keep your accounts on schedule, and flag risks early. This role is as much delivery discipline as it is ideas.
  • Stay hands-on when needed. On a lean team, roll up your sleeves to shoot or edit when manpower is short.

Who You Are

  • Social-native. You have grown or run brand accounts on social and can point to the work. You think in hooks and formats, and you can explain why a piece performed, not just that it did.
  • Ideation-first. You think in concepts and ideas; generating fresh content angles at volume energises you rather than drains you.
  • A brand storyteller across industries. You can find the story in a corporate, healthcare, F\&B, or education client, not only in entertainment, lifestyle, or personal-brand content, and translate it into content that fits their audience.
  • Comfortable on a set. You have directed or co-directed shoots and can hold the creative vision in the room with a crew, not just on a deck.
  • Client-facing and confident presenting. Warm, articulate, and comfortable holding the room with a client or a formal audience (e.g. a hospital board or a corporate marketing team).
  • Organised and accountable. Strong timeline discipline; you can hold not just yourself but a team to deadlines and standards, and you communicate early when something is at risk.
  • Fluent in the Malaysian market. You know what lands with a local audience and what doesn’t.

Bonus If You Have

  • A track record of content planning / social strategy you can show: real accounts, real plans, real results.
  • Experience running paid social alongside organic (Meta Ads or similar).
  • Chinese literacy (read/write). We have accounts that run entirely in Chinese.
  • Prior agency or production-house experience.
  • Practical shooting and editing skills (we’re a production-first shop).
  • Familiarity with project management and social tools (Trello, Notion, Metricool, or similar).

What You’ll Get

  • A strategy-and-craft role with real ownership. You set the direction across live client accounts and then go make it, rather than handing a deck to someone else.
  • Exposure to the full arc of production: strategy, concept, shoot, edit, deliver, across a varied client book.
  • A production-first team and the equipment to make work you’re proud of; work device and workstation provided.
  • Fully on-site in PJ, with parking access; the role is on-the-go (shoots, client meetings).

Pay: RM3,000.00 - RM4,000.00 per month

Benefits:

  • Free parking
  • Opportunities for promotion
  • Professional development
