The Opportunity

Select Fluid Power is looking for a skilled Shop Technician (Machinist/Welder)to join our team in Langley, British Columbia. As the Shop Technician you will be responsible for completing a variety of heavy equipment repair tasks required by our loyal customers.

Essential Duties \& Responsibilities

As the Shop Technician your key responsibilities will include:

  • Follow machine shop safety protocols, WHMIS/LOTO procedures, and workplace best practices
  • Select, use, and maintain trade-related hand tools and precision measuring instruments
  • Interpret and apply trade reference charts, tables, and engineering prints
  • Read and interpret mechanical component and assembly drawings including GD\&T and tolerances
  • Apply metal cutting principles to work pieces and cutting tools
  • Perform trade-related calculations including speeds, feeds, tapers, and geometric values
  • Lay out trade-related geometric work pieces accurately
  • Heat treat and hardness test ferrous metals using industry-standard methods
  • Select appropriate metals, plastics, and abrasives based on machining characteristics
  • Set up, operate, and maintain shop lathes and milling machines, horizontal and vertical band saws, a radial drill press and hydraulic press, and cylindrical and surface grinders
  • Perform welding repairs and machining as directed by the Shop Supervisor
  • Inspect parts and determine appropriate repair action
  • Complete machining reports and work orders accurately

Required Skills \& Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, knowledge, and competencies:

  • Minimum 2 years of related mechanical experience in the heavy equipment industry, or comparable
  • Post-secondary education preferred
  • Proficient with basic computer applications and software
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively alongside customers and internal teams
  • Excellent problem-solving ability and aptitude for understanding and applying mechanical and technical concepts
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and a positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Valid driver's license required

The base pay range for this role is: $30.00 to $40.00 per hour depending on experience.

This is an onsite role based in Langley, British Columbia.
