CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WORK
Under general supervision, performs technical clinical laboratory testing and related work. Responsible for performing administrative duties and clinical laboratory testing. Examples of Duties
EXAMPLES OF WORK (These statements are intended to be illustrations of the work of this class.)
Performs laboratory tests in specialized areas of hematology, microbiology, chemistry, or serology. Performs phlebotomy procedures on adult and pediatric patients. Registers patients for lab testing. Instructs patients on methods of collection for laboratory specimens. Performs examinations of body fluids. Records test results in accordance with lab policy and procedure. Reviews reports for accuracy and completeness. Adheres to laboratory’s quality control policies and documents all QC activities. Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either corrects the problem or notifies the appropriate supervisor. Cleans and stocks work area as necessary. Adheres to universal precautions when performing duties. Travels between clinics as necessary. Performs related work. Minimum Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High school graduation or its equivalent. One year of work experience in a clinical laboratory setting. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted, as determined applicable by Civil Service.
Verification of education and/or training must be provided before the eligibility list goes into effect.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must train to work in laboratories at various clinic locations. Must be able to provide own transportation. Must be vaccinated for Hepatitis B, have provided evidence of immunization, or have signed a declination form within 10 days of initial assignment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Detects reactions and changes in color. Hears analyzers and timers. Obtains patient specimens and operates laboratory equipment. Moves and/or lifts more than 50 lbs. when receiving and unpacking laboratory supplies. Supplemental Information
