Job Summary:
We are looking for a Senior Systems Administrator who reflects the innovative spirit, creative talent, production excellence, collaborative mindset and passion for great filmmaking that defines ILM.
The Senior Systems Administrator will support Linux and storage systems, engage in troubleshooting issues while also participating in forward planning, innovation and automation for existing and new services. This person communicates proactively and clearly, providing documentation for various teams.
Working with both local and global ILM teams, they will administrate infrastructure and services no matter where these are based - on-premises, remote data centre or cloud.
The day-to-day focus for the Sydney studio is on storage, backups and render infrastructure, support via a ticketing system, supporting 1000+ users by quickly and effectively responding to alerts and emergencies as well as the general preparation and maintenance of critical and peripheral infrastructure.
What you’ll do:
- Design solutions to address business and technical needs
- Provision and maintain organisation-wide storage, backup and render servers
- Work independently and in teams on administrative and technical projects
- Monitor and maintain a variety of physical and logical systems
- Collect and analyse data to report on the health of systems
- Respond to and assist in resolving incidents and emergencies
- Timely completion of tasks assigned primarily through a ticketing system
- Learn open and proprietary hardware and software systems
- Stay current with industry standards and emerging technologies
What we’re looking for:
- Bachelor's Degree in computer science, information technology or engineering; or comparable years’ experience
- Minimum two (2) years experience in a systems administration role
- Team player with the ability to work individually
- Self-starter with a cross-disciplinary mindset and DevOps-style approach
- Ability to deliver milestones/tasks under tight deadlines
- Able to work flexible hours
- Works effectively under pressure
- Learns quickly and independently
- Strong organisational skills
- Quickly and methodically troubleshoots and solves problems
- Effectively communicate technical ideas to less-technically minded colleagues
- Able to lift and move items up to 50 lbS
- Experience with:
- Linux desktop and server systems
- Local and networked storage systems
- Networking theory and practice (e.g. TCP/IP, VLANs, link aggregation, routing)
- Common network services/protocols (e.g. DNS, DHCP, SMTP, SMB, NFS)
- Modern computer hardware, virtualisation, and cloud computing
- Server rooms/data centres
- Bonus points for experience with:
- Storage clusters (e.g. NetApp, Isilon, Avere)
- Render farms or high performance, distributed computing
- DevOps systems and frameworks (Kubernetes, Docker, Ansible, VMware, KVM, Git,
- Perforce, Jira)
- Experience in a fast-paced production environment
- Scripting and programming languages
