We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Vehicle Mechanic to join our dynamic workshop team. The successful candidate must have strong experience in diagnosing vehicle faults, identifying the root cause of mechanical and electrical problems, and carrying out effective repairs.
This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced mechanic who is confident working independently, has excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills, and can accurately identify faults rather than simply replacing parts. You will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of vehicles to ensure they are safe, reliable, and performing correctly.
Key Duties
- Accurately diagnose mechanical and electrical faults on a wide range of vehicles, using diagnostic equipment, technical information, testing procedures, and practical fault-finding skills.
- Identify the root cause of vehicle faults and determine the appropriate repair rather than relying on guesswork or unnecessary parts replacement.
- Carry out diagnostic checks, fault-code analysis, live-data monitoring, electrical testing, mechanical inspections, and system troubleshooting.
- Diagnose faults involving engines, transmissions, cooling systems, braking systems, suspension, steering, electrical systems, starting/charging systems, emissions systems, and other vehicle components.
- Use professional diagnostic equipment and manufacturer technical information to investigate and resolve complex faults.
- Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance to a high standard.
- Interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and mechanical drawings where required.
- Carry out mechanical repairs and component replacement safely and efficiently.
- Test and road-test vehicles following repairs to confirm that faults have been correctly rectified.
- Re-check vehicles after repairs and use diagnostic equipment to confirm that no further faults or warning codes are present.
- Keep accurate records of diagnostic findings, repairs, inspections, and work carried out.
- Clearly communicate diagnostic findings and recommended repairs to management and customers where required.
- Work efficiently in a busy workshop environment while maintaining high standards of workmanship and safety.
- Assist and advise other members of the workshop team where required, using your experience to help identify and resolve difficult faults.
Experience \& Requirements
- Proven experience as a vehicle mechanic, with strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
- Excellent ability to diagnose vehicle faults and identify the underlying cause of mechanical and electrical problems.
- Strong experience using professional vehicle diagnostic equipment.
- Good understanding of automotive electrical and mechanical systems.
- Ability to interpret diagnostic fault codes and use live data and testing procedures to accurately diagnose faults.
- Experience diagnosing intermittent and complex faults where the cause may not be immediately obvious.
- Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and manufacturer repair information.
- Strong mechanical knowledge across a wide range of vehicle makes and models.
- Ability to carry out repairs to a high standard following diagnosis.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to fault finding.
- Ability to work independently and make informed decisions when diagnosing and repairing vehicles.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly to management, colleagues, and customers.
- A valid UK driving licence is desirable.
What We Are Looking For
The most important requirement for this position is genuine diagnostic ability. We are looking for a mechanic who can investigate a fault, carry out the necessary tests, understand the results, and confidently establish what is actually causing the problem.
You should be comfortable dealing with vehicles where the fault is not immediately obvious and be able to use a combination of diagnostic equipment, technical knowledge, electrical testing, mechanical inspection, and logical fault-finding to reach the correct diagnosis.
If you are an experienced mechanic who takes pride in solving difficult vehicle faults and can diagnose problems accurately and efficiently, we would like to hear from you.
