Senior Integration Platform & Operations Engineer

Role Purpose

As part of the Middleware & Integration Services team, you will play a key role in supporting Proximus' transformation towards Azure Cloud, modern integration platforms, and AI-enabled digital services.

With the increasing adoption of cloud-native solutions, API-driven architectures, and Generative AI technologies, the demand for secure, scalable and governed integration services continues to grow. Integration platforms are evolving to support not only traditional application connectivity but also AI services, intelligent agents, and emerging business capabilities.

You will support project teams throughout the full lifecycle of their integration journey, from onboarding and connectivity design to operational support, automation, and continuous improvement. Working closely with architects, security teams, developers and operational stakeholders, you will help deliver reliable, secure and future-ready integration services.

Key Responsibilities

Integration Platform Onboarding

• Support project teams adopting Middleware, Azure-based integration services and emerging AI-enabled solutions.
• Analyze incoming requests and translate business requirements into technical integration designs.
• Guide projects through the onboarding process for API Gateway, Service Mesh, Messaging, Managed File Transfer and cloud-native integration services.
• Coordinate setup and configuration activities with security, networking, infrastructure and platform teams.

Perimeter Gateway & Partner Connectivity

• Design and manage connectivity solutions for external partners, vendors, cloud services and API consumers.
• Ensure secure communication between internal applications, external ecosystems and future AI-enabled services.
• Contribute to the evolution of perimeter gateway capabilities, security controls, governance and provisioning automation solutions.
• Ensure compliance with enterprise security standards and best practices.

Operational Engineering & Support

• Provide second- and third-line support for Middleware and Integration platforms.
• Investigate incidents, perform root cause analysis and coordinate resolution activities.
• Improve platform reliability through enhanced monitoring, documentation and operational procedures.
• Manage vendor interactions, product lifecycle activities, upgrades and patching.
• Leverage AI-assisted tools to accelerate troubleshooting, analysis, knowledge management and operational efficiency.

Platform Engineering, Automation & Innovation

• Contribute to the evolution of integration platforms, cloud-native services and AI-enabled capabilities.
• Automate provisioning, configuration and deployment processes.
• Participate in CI/CD, GitOps and Infrastructure-as-Code initiatives.
• Develop reusable automation and self-service solutions.
• Support new platform requirements related to AI services, including governance, observability, usage monitoring and rate-limiting capabilities.
• Continuously identify opportunities to improve efficiency through automation and AI-assisted engineering practices.

Cloud Migration & Technology Adoption

• Support application teams in their migration towards Azure-based integration services and cloud-native architectures.
• Assist projects in adopting modern platform capabilities, including Service Mesh and AI-related integration patterns.
• Contribute to platform adoption, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives.

Knowledge Sharing & Collaboration

• Maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
• Coach operational teams on new technologies, tools and engineering practices.
• Collaborate with architects, developers, security teams and service owners.
• Contribute to integration standards, platform roadmaps and operational best practices.

Required Skills

5-10 years of experience in middleware domain

Integration & Middleware

• Strong understanding of enterprise integration patterns and distributed architectures.
• Experience with API Gateway, Service Mesh, Messaging and Managed File Transfer platforms.
• Experience supporting B2B and partner connectivity solutions.
• Good understanding of networking, security controls and perimeter gateway architectures.

Azure Cloud & Cloud Native Technologies

Experience with Azure services such as:

• Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
• Azure Storage
• Azure Event Hub
• Azure Event Grid
• Azure Monitor
• Azure Entra ID
• Azure Networking and Security Services

Automation & Platform Engineering

• Kubernetes administration and troubleshooting.
• Istio Service Mesh knowledge.
• Experience with GitHub, GitHub workflows, CI-CD, GitOps and ArgoCD.
• Infrastructure as Code.
• Scripting experience (Bicep, PowerShell, Bash, Python).
• Familiarity with AI-assisted engineering tools and the practical use of Generative AI for design, documentation and troubleshooting activities.
• Experience on engineering and support of other API Management or messaging platforms

Operations

• Strong troubleshooting and incident management skills.
• Experience in operational support environments.
• Experience with monitoring and observability platforms – Splunk & Dynatrace
• Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and technical teams.
• Understanding of operational challenges related to API consumption, service governance and emerging AI services.
