Job Description

Role Overview

The Research Analyst will be responsible for maintaining and improving the quality, completeness, and timeliness of data within our proprietary market intelligence platform.

The role will focus mainly on desk-based research, using publicly available sources to identify, verify, update, and enrich information on individual data centre listings consisting of data points involving companies, locations, capacity, buildings, developments, ownership, and market activity.

This role is well-suited to someone who is methodical, curious, comfortable working with data, and able to follow clear research processes while developing knowledge of the global data centre industry.

Key Responsibilities

Desk-based Research

  • Conduct structured desk research using publicly available sources, including company websites, press releases, planning documents, regulatory filings, news articles, industry reports, government databases, corporate announcements, and other reliable online sources.
  • Identify new data centres, expansions, developments, ownership changes, operator updates, and other relevant market developments.
  • Research and verify information relating to individual data centre facilities, including location, operator, owner, status, size, power capacity, technical specifications, services offered, and development stage.
  • Monitor relevant market sources regularly to ensure the platform reflects the latest available information.
  • Assess the reliability of different sources and apply judgement when information is incomplete, inconsistent, or requires validation.

Data Entry and Platform Maintenance

  • Enter researched information accurately into the company’s proprietary market intelligence platform.
  • Keep individual data centre listings up to date, ensuring information is complete, consistent, and correctly formatted.
  • Update existing records when new information becomes available, including changes to company names, ownership, operational status, facility specifications, or project timelines.
  • Create new listings where appropriate, following internal data standards and classification rules.
  • Maintain clear source references and evidence trails so that data points can be reviewed and validated.
  • Ensure that data is entered in a timely manner and in line with internal priorities and deadlines.

Data Quality and Validation

  • Review data centre records for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Cross-check information across multiple public sources where required.
  • Flag uncertain, conflicting, or incomplete information to senior team members for review.
  • Support periodic data audits and quality assurance checks.
  • Help improve the consistency of data fields, naming conventions, categories, and research methodologies.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of data quality across the platform.

Market Monitoring and Intelligence Support

  • Track developments in the data centre sector, including new facility announcements, hyperscale activity, colocation developments, cloud infrastructure investment, energy and power constraints, land acquisitions, and regional market trends.
  • Support the research team with ad hoc research tasks, data collection exercises, and market mapping projects.
  • Provide concise summaries of relevant findings where needed.
  • Assist in building and maintaining datasets that support market analysis, client reporting, and platform enhancements.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the data centre industry, including operators, investors, markets, infrastructure types, and key terminology.

What Good Looks Like in This Role

A successful Research Analyst in this role is someone who consistently produces data that other people can trust and use with confidence. They are not simply entering information quickly; they are researching carefully, checking sources, making sensible judgements, and keeping the platform accurate, current, and complete.

Good performance looks like:

1. Timely Updates

  • The analyst regularly identifies relevant public information and updates the platform promptly.
  • They keep on top of assigned markets, operators, or regions and do not allow records to become outdated.
  • They complete research and data entry tasks within agreed deadlines and communicate early if there are blockers.

2. High-quality Research

  • The analyst uses reliable sources and understands which sources carry more weight.
  • They cross-check important information rather than relying on a single unverified source.
  • They record source references clearly so that data can be reviewed later.
  • They flag uncertainty instead of making unsupported assumptions.

3. Accurate Data Entry

  • The analyst enters information consistently, using the correct fields, formats, naming conventions, and classifications.
  • They avoid duplication, spelling errors, incomplete fields, and inconsistent terminology.
  • They understand that even small errors can affect the quality of the wider dataset and client-facing platform.

4. Complete Records

  • The analyst makes a genuine effort to populate all available fields for each data centre listing.
  • They look beyond the first source and use multiple public sources where appropriate.
  • They identify missing data points and either fill them, flag them, or note where information is not publicly available.

5. Strong Ownership

  • The analyst treats their assigned records or markets as their responsibility.
  • They notice gaps, inconsistencies, and outdated information without always needing to be prompted.
  • They suggest improvements to research processes, source lists, or data quality checks where useful.

6. Developing Market Understanding

  • Overtime, the analyst becomes increasingly familiar with data centre operators, owners, markets, terminology, and industry developments.
  • They start to recognise patterns, spot unusual data points, and understand why certain information matters.
  • They move from simply collecting data to understanding the context behind it.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Degree-level education or equivalent experience.
  • Strong desk-based research skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working with data, databases, spreadsheets, and online platforms.
  • Ability to find, interpret, and organise publicly available information.
  • Strong written English and ability to summarise information clearly.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently on structured tasks.
  • Organised, methodical, and able to manage repetitive but important data maintenance work.
  • Comfortable following defined research processes and data standards.
  • Curiosity about business, technology, infrastructure, real estate, or digital markets.

Desirable

  • Interest in data centres, digital infrastructure, telecoms, cloud computing, real estate, or energy.
  • Experience using spreadsheets, databases, or research platforms.
  • Experience conducting online research for academic, business, or professional purposes.
  • Familiarity with data quality concepts such as completeness, consistency, validation, and source checking.
  • Foreign language skills, particularly for researching non-English-speaking markets in the APAC region.
