EQUINE VETERINARY NURSE

Hawkesbury Equine Veterinary Centre is seeking an experienced Equine Veterinary Nurse to join our friendly and progressive team in Clarendon, NSW.
We are a well-established equine hospital providing hospital, ambulatory, surgical and advanced reproductive services to a diverse equine clientele across the Hawkesbury and greater Western Sydney region.
This is a varied, hands-on role suited to a capable and compassionate nurse who enjoys working as part of a collaborative veterinary team and is confident handling horses in both hospital and clinical environments.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Your responsibilities will include:
- Nursing and monitoring hospitalised horses
- Cleaning stables, yards and general hospital cleaning
- Assisting veterinarians with medical and surgical procedures
- Preparing patients and equipment for surgery
- Anaesthetic monitoring and recovery
- Assisting with diagnostic procedures, including radiography and ultrasonography
- Supporting our equine reproduction services, including preparing and handling mares for artificial insemination and embryo transfer etc.
- Laboratory work and sample processing
- Preparing, cleaning and maintaining clinical instruments and equipment
- Administering medications and treatments under veterinary direction
- Maintaining accurate patient and treatment records
- Communicating with and supporting horse owners
- Participating in a shared weeknight and weekend after-hours nursing roster
- On-call roster of 1 in 3 weeknights / weekends
ABOUT YOU
The successful applicant will have:
- A Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, an equivalent recognised qualification, or an overseas veterinary qualification with relevant equine nursing experience
- A minimum of two years’ experience working in an equine veterinary practice or hospital environment
- Confident and safe horse-handling skills
- Experience assisting with equine medical and surgical cases
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- A current driver’s licence
- A genuine commitment to high standards of patient and client care
Experience in equine reproduction, laboratory procedures, anaesthesia or veterinary practice-management Ezyvet software would be highly regarded but is not essential.
