At TransitionZero, Market Development connects the real decisions facing governments, utilities and other energy system stakeholders with the modelling, software and analysis needed to answer them. It then builds the pathway from the first conversation through solution definition, implementation, adoption and evidence of value.
We are looking for a Project Manager, Market Development, to provide the delivery structure that enables this work to progress consistently across priority programmes, pilots, partnerships and strategic engagements. The role combines hands-on project management with technical literacy, structured research, stakeholder coordination and clear written communication.
Working closely with the Head of Market Development and regional teams, the Project Manager will maintain a reliable view of priorities, translate complex engagements into practical implementation plans, coordinate cross-functional dependencies and ensure that external commitments are professionally managed and followed through. Early wins will include a single reliable portfolio view, consistent project charters and delivery plans, visible modelling, data and stakeholder dependencies, dependable external reporting, and a well-maintained body of reusable evidence and project intelligence.
This role manages the planning, coordination and delivery discipline for priority Market Development work. It works across product, modelling, engineering, analysis and communications, coordinating specialist contributions while keeping priorities, decisions and external commitments aligned with the Head of Market Development.
Responsibilities
Portfolio \& Project Infrastructure \~ 30%
- Set up and maintain project charters, work breakdown structures, milestone plans, owners, dependencies, risk and issue logs, decision records and change controls for priority Market Development projects and pilots.
- Maintain a clear portfolio-level view of priority initiatives, showing status, next milestones, critical paths, external commitments, resource dependencies, risks and decisions required.
- Build and improve practical templates, checklists, reporting routines and portfolio dashboards that make delivery more consistent as Market Development scales.
Delivery Planning \& Scoping \~25%
- Translate priorities agreed with the Head of Market Development into end-to-end implementation plans covering the decision question and use case, intended users, data and modelling inputs, product or analysis milestones, review and validation points, user enablement, communications, adoption and final outputs.
- Support solution discovery and scoping by documenting stakeholder decision questions, existing workflows, data requirements, success criteria, scope boundaries and implementation dependencies.
- Track technical, data, product, market and external stakeholder dependencies, coordinate review points and surface gaps early when scope, delivery quality, communications or stakeholder expectations are at risk.
Coordination \& Stakeholder Management \~25%
- Run the coordination cadence for priority projects, including agendas, pre-reads, action notes, follow-up trackers, decision records and clear ownership of next steps.
- Maintain shared implementation trackers, agreed timelines and delivery commitments for customer, partner and pilot engagements, following up with internal and external owners to keep work on track.
- Coordinate product demonstrations, workshops, roundtables, roadshows, conferences and senior stakeholder meetings, ensuring readiness across the decision narrative, technical content, materials, participants, logistics and post-event follow-through.
- Provide structured execution support to the Head of Market Development across priority initiatives, including portfolio prioritisation materials, meeting briefs, project trackers, event planning and disciplined external follow-through.
Research \& Drafting \~15%
- Prepare clear first drafts of concept notes, project plans, status updates, partner or funder reports, workshop packs, executive briefs, external follow-ups and case-study inputs, synthesising specialist contributions into accessible language.
- Conduct focused research and analysis on markets, institutions, policies, stakeholders, competitors, partners and events to support opportunity development, meeting preparation and regional activities.
- Coordinate the preparation of market-facing materials, working with the Head of Market Development and relevant specialists to ensure that content is technically accurate, relevant to the intended audience and consistent with TransitionZero’s external positioning.
Operational Discipline \& Knowledge Management \~5%
- Maintain strong operational discipline across HubSpot, stakeholder maps, contact lists, shared project repositories and version-controlled records, creating a dependable source of truth for the team.
- Capture decisions, outcomes, user evidence, market signals, implementation lessons and reusable assets so that learning from each engagement strengthens future proposals, delivery approaches and case studies.
About You
You are a highly organised, analytically minded and collaborative project professional who enjoys understanding how complex work fits together. You are comfortable turning strategic direction into disciplined execution, coordinating people who do not report to you and ensuring that important details are not lost as work moves across teams.
You do not need to be a modeller, but you should be technically curious and able to understand how a modelling or analytical solution moves from a decision question through data, assumptions, scenarios, review and use. You write clearly, ask good questions and know when to move work forward independently and when to seek alignment from the Head of Market Development.
While we are a rapidly growing technology organisation, we are also a nonprofit, so a high level of adaptability and willingness to approach challenges with creativity and curiosity is essential.
Skills \& Experience
Essential
- 5+ years of experience in project management, programme coordination, implementation delivery, consulting operations or a similar execution-focused role.
- Experience coordinating software, data, analytics, technical consulting or other complex solution projects across requirements, inputs, delivery, review, user enablement and completion.
- Strong practical project-management skills, including work breakdown structures, milestone plans, action trackers, risk and issue logs, dependencies, decision records and meeting cadences.
- Enough technical literacy to follow how modelling or analytical solutions are scoped and implemented, including inputs, assumptions, scenarios, outputs, validation and limitations, and to identify missing information or dependencies.
- Excellent written communication and synthesis skills, with the ability to turn specialist input into concise project updates, briefs, workshop materials, external follow-ups and decision records.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to organise evidence from multiple sources and identify the information that matters for a project, stakeholder or opportunity.
- Confidence coordinating across functions and geographies without formal authority, while working in close alignment with the Head of Market Development.
- Ability to communicate professionally with external stakeholders and follow through consistently on agreed actions, timelines and information requests.
- Strong working knowledge of collaborative tools such as Google Workspace or Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, shared documentation and project-management platforms.
- Ability to manage confidential commercial, technical and stakeholder information with good judgement and discretion.
- Ability to maintain regular working overlap with both Southeast Asia and London, with reasonable flexibility for priority customer, partner and internal meetings.
Desirable
- Direct exposure to power-system planning, electricity-market analysis or energy modelling, including familiarity with software such as PLEXOS, PyPSA, OSeMOSYS or comparable tools.
- Experience in energy, climate, technology, professional services or another environment involving technical work and complex external stakeholders.
- Experience supporting government, utility, development-finance, grant-funded, partnership or multi-organisation projects.
- Experience with HubSpot or another CRM, including contact, account and opportunity-data management.
- Experience coordinating product demonstrations, workshops, roundtables, roadshows, conferences or senior stakeholder meetings.
- Experience preparing presentations, case-study inputs, event materials or other external content for a complex technical proposition.
- Experience with Notion, Slack and lightweight portfolio dashboards or reporting systems.
Salary \& Benefits
- Retirement Plan out-enrolment from day 1
- Enhanced annual leave entitlement
- Annual allowance to set up your home office
- Annual budget and dedicated leave time for relevant training courses
- Enhanced gender-neutral parental leave
- Private healthcare following the successful completion of the probation period
