About the Role

The IPD team supplies medicines to all areas of this busy teaching hospital and several offsite Counties Manukau Health facilities. As an Operational Dispensary Pharmacist, you will be part of a digitally enabled pharmacy service that supports inpatient and outpatient care across Middlemore Hospital and satellite sites (including the Manukau Health Park).

You will be exposed to medication charts from every speciality, allowing you to develop a great breadth of pharmaceutical knowledge. With the variety of incoming work, every day is different! Excellent problem-solving skills, quick decision making, being efficient and flexible are essential. Daily duties include checking inpatient charts for safety, ensuring timely supply of medicines, responding to ward queries, and supporting the pharmacy technicians. You will process medications in complex areas such as compounding, Controlled Drugs, supply of high-risk oncology medicines, home IV antibiotics and Parenteral Nutrition.

Your professional development needs will be well supported through regular in-service educational sessions and a variety of other options such as external training courses or seminars and postgraduate education depending on the relevance to the role.

About You

We are looking for a NZ registered pharmacist who is/has:

  • Previous Hospital Pharmacy experience (preferred) or experienced community pharmacist
  • A good understanding of therapeutics
  • Accurate and organised
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • A team player
  • Ability to prioritise and manage time efficiently
  • Comfortable working under pressure
  • Committed with a can-do attitude
  • Able to work flexible hours during weekdays and rostered weekends/public holidays
  • A full, clean drivers licence
  • Committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and improving equity in health outcomes.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
