About the role:

Maternal and Child Health line is a 24-hour telephone service supporting Victorian families with children's health and development from pregnancy to starting school

Maternal and Child Health Line operates as a component of the Victorian Maternal and Child Health Service. The Maternal and Child Health Line nurses actively listen and respond to the immediate concerns of callers utilising evidence-based practice by providing quality guidance, information, support, counselling, and referral to Maternal and Child Health and other agencies.

About you:

Can you demonstrate the following?

  • Provide a quality, professional 24-hour maternal and child health telephone service to promote and support the health and wellbeing of families and young children from birth to starting school.
  • Be proficient in professional maternal and child health nursing practices and procedures. Have an understanding of contemporary and social issues facing families and the resources available within the community for addressing these issues.
  • Have a sound knowledge of evidence informed sleep and settling practices.
  • Promote and actively link families to Universal Maternal and Child Health services and other locally based support services for families.
  • Work co-operatively with team members, managers and stakeholders.
  • Keep accurate and complete records in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.

Qualifications / Specialist Expertise

Mandatory: Meets the qualification requirements for a Maternal and Child Health nurse as set out in Section 4 of the MCH Service Guidelines (DHHS 2019) including

Holding current registration with AHPRA as:

  • a Registered Nurse (Division 1)
  • a Registered Midwife, and

in addition to the above registrations, hold an accredited postgraduate degree/diploma (or equivalent) in maternal and child health nursing

  • A minimum of 2 years recent experience in community Maternal and Child Health Practice
