DEFINITION:
Under the direction of the Information System Manager (or designate), this role provides general IT support to assist with entry-level tasks and gain exposure to municipal IT systems. This is a learning-focused opportunity ideal for students in IT or related studies.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
- Assist with the setup, deployment, and configuration of desktop computers, laptops, mobile devices, and peripherals;
- Support basic user onboarding tasks including account setup, device preparation, and system access;
- Perform routine software installations, updates, and patching activities;
- Organize, update, and maintain IT inventory records and documentation;
- Assist with monitoring and documenting low-priority service requests and support tickets;
- Provide basic troubleshooting support for hardware, software, and peripheral devices under supervision;
- Assist with cable management, workstation moves, and equipment organization;
- Shadow IT staff to gain exposure to systems, networks, cybersecurity practices, and municipal IT operations;
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment and follow all IT policies and procedures;
- Support IT department with ongoing projects;
- Other related duties, as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Completion of at least one (1) year of post-secondary education in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, with continued studies planned for September;
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft 365 applications;
- Ability to learn new technologies and follow technical instructions;
- Ability to work independently and to accomplish assigned tasks;
- Ability to communicate effectively and deal courteously with staff;
- Strong organizational and time management skills;
- Physical ability to perform light lifting and equipment handling;
- Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence is considered an asset.
