Role summary
Manage end-to-end payroll processing and provide HR administration support for a busy automotive workshop, ensuring accurate, timely pay runs, compliance with employment law, and smooth HR operations.
Key responsibilities
- Process fortnightly/weekly payrolls: time-sheet reconciliation, overtime, allowances, deductions and statutory leave calculations
- Maintain payroll records, file PAYE and KiwiSaver obligations and liaise with accountants or payroll providers
- Administer employee onboarding and offboarding: contracts, NZ employment compliance checks, induction and equipment allocation
- Maintain and update personnel files, leave balances, performance records and HR databases
- Manage employee benefits, leave requests, returns to work and timesheet systems
- Support recruitment: job adverts, candidate screening, interview scheduling and reference checks
- Assist with performance management, training coordination and staff development records
- Prepare payroll and HR reports for management; support budgeting and labour-cost analysis
- Ensure confidentiality of employee data and compliance with privacy and employment regulations
- Act as first point of contact for staff HR/payroll enquiries
Qualifications \& experience
- Certificate or diploma in Human Resources, Payroll Administration, Business or relevant discipline preferred; NZQA equivalence acceptable
- Minimum 2–3 years’ payroll experience in New Zealand, ideally with PAYE, KiwiSaver and employment-law knowledge
- Experience with payroll software (e.g., MYOB, Xero Payroll, SmartPayroll, or similar) and HRIS systems
- Strong numeracy, attention to detail and record-keeping skills
- Experience in recruitment and general HR administration desirable
Skills \& attributes
- Confidential, ethical and organised with excellent communication skills
- Proficient with MS Office; strong Excel skills for reporting and reconciliation
- Ability to prioritise, meet deadlines (payroll cutoffs) and work with minimal supervision
- Team-player attitude and customer-service orientation for staff-facing role
Pay: $30.55 – $55.80 per hour
