Calgary Housing (CH) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The City of Calgary. CH is a purpose-driven social enterprise and the largest housing operator in Calgary, providing safe and affordable housing to more than 27,000 Calgarians. As a Finance Consultant, you will be an important contributor to help us reach our ambitious vision to be the best ¿ for our residents, our employees, and our city. Primary duties include:

  • Provide financial analysis to enable a portfolio approach to operations.
  • Interpret internal and external financial policies, processes, client needs, and accounting standards for a diverse audience with varying financial understanding.
  • Ensure CH Board, External Partners and CH Management are provided with timely and accurate financial data to help in management decision making.
  • Participate in the month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing processes, including drafting financial reports for the Board of Directors, and deliver presentations to Leaders and Vice Presidents.
  • Liaise with external auditors to support an unqualified audit opinion, including preparing the audited financial statements and note disclosures.
  • Provide expert financial advice to support strategic business decisions.
  • Research complex accounting issues and implement emerging new accounting standards.
  • Coordinate, deliver, and present the annual and four-year budgets including the annual budget amendments.
  • Perform biannual internal controls assessment, including researching, documenting and presenting results.
  • Develop and maintain accounting manuals and monthly and year-end check lists.
  • Provide reporting to The City of Calgary and Government of Alberta.
  • Provide coaching and training to various Operational and Finance support staff.
  • Prepare recommendations that will be used to leverage information being presented to the Vice Presidents, the President, and Board.
  • Collect, research, identify trends/risks related to financial issues or problems.
  • Prepare analysis of various scenarios related to financial or business items to support the Finance Lead, Chief Finance \& Risk Officer and Vice Presidents.

Qualifications* A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, with at least 5 years of progressive financial experience is required. * Advanced excel skills including pivot tables, what-if analysis, lookup functions, and nested IF statements are required. * Applicants with 2 or more years of external audit experience will be given preference. * Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) experience will be considered an asset. * Knowledge of Power Business Analytics (Power BI) will be considered an asset. * Experience working with Yardi Voyager will also be an asset. * The ability to prepare complex analysis under a tight timeline and to deal with ad-hoc requests. * The ability to work independently on complex projects or tasks and take them from start to finish. * Excellent communication skills with a strong customer focus. * The ability to take initiative and meet tight deadlines while adapting to shifting priorities. * Strong analytical skills and demonstrated problem solving abilities.

Position Type: 1 Permanent and 1 Temporary (up to 12 months)

Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $48.54 - 64.88 per hour

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week.

Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
