Overview/Basic Function:

The Pool Technician is responsible for the safe, efficient, and hygienic operation of all swimming pools, Jacuzzis, water features, and plumbing systems within the hotel. This role ensures the proper functioning of water circulation, filtration, sanitation, and chemical treatment systems while strictly adhering to health, safety, and hospitality standards. The technician performs routine inspections, preventive maintenance, water-quality testing, and repairs to maintain excellent water clarity and guest safety. In addition, the role covers plumbing tasks such as fixing leaks, maintaining domestic water systems, drainage, and ensuring uninterrupted water supply across guest rooms and back-of-house areas

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures and standards.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment; Use equipment only as intended.
  • Anticipate guests’ needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all guests, however busy and at any time of day.
  • Maintain positive guest relations at all times.
  • Resolve guest complaints, ensuring guest satisfaction.
  • Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas.
  • Act in capacity of Senior Technician during his/her absence.
  • Monitor Unifox SMMS application and respond promptly to any requests made for problems, assistance, or emergency work orders.
  • Inspect supply levels, cleanliness and organization of storage areas; assign designated personnel to rectify any deficiencies.
  • Pre-plan and order materials for special projects; coordinate scheduling with department heads to eliminate conflict.
  • Conduct building rounds and take gauge readings; check for potential fire hazards, burnt out lights, and faulty equipment.
  • Check Engineering Logbook and Night Report for information regarding problems; document pertinent information in logbook.
  • Repair and maintain all Mechanical equipment (Pool Technical Room)
  • Carries out routine tests of all swimming pools, fountains, water features, Jacuzzi – internal and external and the steam baths. Maintains the daily record of water tests \& treatment record chemical value of CL2 \& the PH level to ensure the required chemical levels are maintained according to the standard level comfortable for human use i.e. not to exceed the parameter + -.
  • Check and inform the storekeeper of the necessary stock of chemicals that is required 7 days prior to end of stock and maintain a logbook
  • Checks the operation of equipment in all the pool’s plant rooms and heat pump plant room, indoor \& outdoor fountain pumps and the water fall pumps. Any faulty operation of equipment is to be reported to the Facility as well as the Guest Services Office. Minor repair to be carried out promptly.
  • Repair and maintain the health of all equipment. Carry out the PPM of equipment.
  • Check and replace fused lamps in swimming pools.
  • Ensure that the work areas and workshops are kept clean and tidy
  • Use life safety equipment and protective gloves whilst handling the chemicals (PPE Must be).
  • Will always keep all pool plant rooms’ clean and tidy.
  • Will keep work area, whether in workshop or elsewhere, clean and tidy and at the completion of work have work area cleaned and tools and equipment removed. At the end of day make sure all tools and equipment are in their proper places, have dustbins emptied and workshop cleaned.
  • All other duties as required. Qualifications:

Experience: Minimum five years’ experience in building maintenance Plumber or Pool Technician for a luxury or ultra-luxury hotel/resort.

Education: High school diploma.

General Skills: Must be able to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy; prioritize, organize and follow-up; be a clear thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgment; follow directions thoroughly. understand a guest’s service needs, work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team; work with minimal supervision; maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent hotel data.

Technical Skills: Basic working knowledge of building maintenance, electrical, plumbing and refrigeration equipment; working knowledge of plumbing practices, electrical practices, national/local fire standards, local mechanical construction practices, water treatment program, blue prints and plumbing and wiring schematics, power and hand tools, meters, etc. as it relates to the technical trades; ability to enforce hotel's standards, policies and procedures with assigned associates, prioritize and organize work assignments, delegate work, direct performance of assigned associates and follow up with corrections where needed, instruct/direct associates in the operation, maintenance and repair of equipment, motivate assigned associates and maintain a cohesive team; participate in associates training and provide feedback and input to training program, be a clear thinker in pressure situations and exercise good judgment, focus attention on details, maintain confidentiality of hotel guests and pertinent hotel information, work with minimal supervision, troubleshoot and use alternatives in emergency situations, understand guest inquiries, provide responses and interact positively, work in close proximity to high-pressure steam and hot water.

Language: Required to speak, read and write English, with fluency in other languages preferred.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to endure various physical movements throughout the work areas, reach up and down, remain stationary at times throughout work periods, and satisfactorily communicate with guests and co-workers to their understanding.
