Job Description

Kleos is seeking in person, two-to-one support for one student with various inclusive education needs in Merritt, BC. The Contracted Kleos Education Assistant would be working from the student’s home and would be working with and supported by an extensive school based and medical team.

The start date for this position is September 8, 2026.

The Education Assistant (EA) must be comfortable supporting a student who may have inclusive education designations such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), Diabetes, Global Developmental Delay, etc.

No medical knowledge is necessary but general experience around medications and how they affect emotional regulation is an asset. This student always has 2:1 supervision

Candidates must be comfortable supporting the student with their assigned school work via BrightSpace, an online learning management system. Proficiency in foundational math concepts and life skills is essential.

Experience with or willingness to learn alternative communication tools (e.g., Eyegaze, AAC devices) This is supported by a diverse team of therapists. Training and ongoing support are available to ensure success in the role.

This position is contracted work between 6-8 hours per week, within the school calendar year. This position includes in-person and virtual support services. Hours may be increased if the EA would like to work with more students and is competent with offering virtual support. EA's schedules are determined by themselves and the guardians of the students they work with. The only stipulation being that they can not work on a non-school day (weekends, statutory holidays, school breaks).

Preference will be given to those with experience/training in working with students with inclusive education needs, tutoring or respite, and supporting behaviour management.

Candidates would be required to travel to the student's home to implement a program provided from a distance by a Kleos BC certified teacher. Mileage reimbursement is being offered for this position.

Our support staff must be professional, caring, flexible, work well with little supervision, participate in a team-based approach, and be comfortable using technology.

You must complete a criminal record check before commencing services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Access students academic programs through BrightSpace/D2L.
  • Take direction from the Teacher and provide adaptations to learning materials.
  • Facilitate learning activities based on goals outlined in the IEP as directed by the Teacher.
  • Attend IEP meetings, submit bi-weekly reporting on progress, and respond to email communication from parents and the school.
  • Demonstrate how to correctly and safely perform a life skill.
  • Assist students with emotional regulation.
  • Access materials provided by the Teacher or other members of the students school based team. (behaviour consultant, speech language pathologists, occupational therapist, etc)

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Previous experience with neurodiversity, individuals with diverse abilities, or individuals who have accessed inclusive education supports. (required)
  • Experience working with children (required)
  • Education Assistant certificate or diploma
  • Behaviour Intervention certificate or diploma
  • Experience with AAC devices
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
  • Ability to participate in a team based approach
  • Confidence with technology

Hours and Salary:

  • Contracted work for 6-8 hours per week during the school calendar year.
  • $30 - $35 per hour depending on experience and education.
