About the Role
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference as part of a service dedicated to delivering excellent renal care across the Midland region.
We are seeking a Consultant Renal Physician to join our progressive and well-established team at Waikato Hospital. This fixed-term role provides leave cover for 11 months from November 2026 and offers a rewarding mix of inpatient, outpatient and regional service delivery, plus participation in the on-call roster. You will be well supported by a strong culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous learning.

About the Service
Waikato Hospital is home to one of New Zealands largest renal services, comprising an inpatient renal ward, acute dialysis unit and the recently commissioned Midland Regional Renal Centre.
The service provides all aspects of renal medicine, excluding acute kidney transplantation, and is recognised for its strong home-based treatment philosophy. It supports one of Australasias largest peritoneal dialysis populations, extensive home haemodialysis programmes and regional transplant follow-up services.
The Renal Service operates across Waikato, Lakes, Bay of Plenty and Tairāwhiti, delivering specialist care through a hub-and-spoke model to a population of over a million.

For clinicians with previous experience and interest, opportunities exist to undertake interventional nephrology procedures including renal biopsy, tunnelled dialysis catheter insertion and Tenckhoff catheter insertion.
The service also hosts a busy clinical research unit involved in studies of emerging and novel therapies.
As a teaching hospital and a campus of the University of Auckland Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, Waikato Hospital offers opportunities to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
