A wildfire crew member's job entails responding to and controlling wildfires, performing forest management duties, and maintaining equipment, often working in remote and challenging environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Participate in initial attack and sustained attack fire operations.
Construct and maintain fire control lines using hand tools.
Set up and maintain hose and pump systems.
Perform burnout operations to control fire spread.
Mop-up hotspots and extinguish remaining heat.
Work in remote forestry environments and camp in established fire camps.
May be deployed to other parts of the province to assist on large incidents, all travel costs paid by employer.
May involve long hours (12+ hour work days) and extended deployments (up to 14 days).
May be involved in fuel reduction projects and other forestry work.
Work as part of a team under the Incident Command System (ICS).
Exposure to extreme temperatures, smoke, and other hazards.
