Job Description

Position Overview

This position will report to the General Counsel and have a leadership role in the Legal Department and the broader organization. The position will assist with the day-to-day functioning of the Legal Department and servicing all the Department's internal and external clients.

Essential Elements

  • Corporate governance activities for an Insurance Holding Company system including 7 operating subsidiaries.
  • Contract negotiation and drafting including reinsurance agreements, administrative services agreements and other vendor contracts.
  • Provide legal support to Business Leaders across the organization
  • Litigation management

Requirements

Education and Certifications

  • Juris Doctor from accredited law school required
  • Licensed to practice law required

Experience

  • Minimum 10-15 years of legal experience with a law firm, insurance or reinsurance organization
  • Drafting and interpretation of complex corporate contracts and agreements; experience with reinsurance agreements, administrative services agreements, insurance agency contracts and other insurance documents strongly preferred
  • Structuring and negotiating business transactions
  • Recent experience in a strong customer-centric environment
  • Background in a variety of life, health, casualty and liability insurance products is desirable
  • Litigation and claim management for insurance company is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework for the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence by insurance companies.
  • People Management experience preferred

Travel Required

  • Occasional overnight travel may be periodically required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in fast-paced professional business environment is essential.
