Job Description

About us

Hello San Diego is a local lifestyle and discovery brand — reels, guides, events, and stories about the best of the city. We share a team with Routt Home Team (real estate) and Hello Scale (a local marketing agency), so as an intern you'll get your hands on all three: consumer content, real-estate education, and B2B marketing. We're a small, fast-moving crew that ships a lot of work every week, and we take one thing seriously above everything else: our content sounds like a real San Diegan, never like a corporate account or a robot.

You'd be joining as a semester intern, learning a real, portfolio-ready skill from people who do this for a living — not fetching coffee.

The basics (all roles)

  • When: Fall 2026 (Semester or 2 Quarters)
  • Where: In-office in San Diego. This is a hands-on, in-person internship — you'll be out in the city and working alongside the team.
  • Hours: \~12 hours/week for one semester, on a schedule we set together.
  • Credit: This is an unpaid internship for academic credit. You'll need to be eligible to receive course credit from your school; we're happy to work with your program and its paperwork.
  • You'll leave with: A real portfolio of published work, a testimonial, and a genuine skill you can point to in your next interview.

Video/Content Editor

You can turn a pile of raw clips into a scroll-stopping first three seconds.

You're the person who makes the footage sing. Working across all three of our brands — Hello San Diego, Routt Home Team, and Hello Scale — you'll take what the Content-Getter captures and cut it into video that actually gets watched, saved, and shared: everything from short-form reels to long-form YouTube guides. You'll also help shape the story before a single clip is shot.

What you'll do

  • Write reel scripts, drafting two hooks per video so we can A/B test what lands.
  • Cut captured footage into reels, TikToks, and Shorts across our three video formats — B-roll, pacing built for retention, and burned-in on-screen captions.
  • Draft the post caption for each piece using our five-beat structure, so the cut and the copy ship together.
  • Edit our long-form YouTube videos — the neighborhood and area guides that rank in search and keep working for years — and help script them.

What you'll walk away with

  • Publish-ready editing chops across both short-form and long-form, and a real feel for retention and hooks.
  • Storytelling and caption-writing skills — short-form and long-form — you can show off across every platform we run.

You might be a fit if

  • You edit already — CapCut, Premiere, DaVinci, whatever your tool is — and want reps that go live, from quick cuts to longer builds.
  • You understand why a hook matters and can feel when a cut is dragging.
  • You care about the details: clean captions, tight pacing, the right sound.

How to Apply

Email us the following:

  • Your resume
  • A cover letter telling us why you're interested in this role, what you enjoy about editing, and what kinds of videos you love making.
  • A portfolio or 3–5 examples of your work. This could include:
  • Short-form videos (Reels, TikToks, or Shorts)
  • Long-form YouTube edits
  • Client work, freelance projects, or personal content
  • Before-and-after edits, if you have them
  • If available, include links to any social media accounts or YouTube channels where your edits have been published.
  • Your university and confirmation that you're eligible to receive academic credit for the internship.
  • Your general availability for the semester.

Priority Deadline: July 30, 2026

Every application is reviewed by a real person. We care more about your storytelling, pacing, and editing instincts than the software you use. Show us work you're proud of—and the videos you'd be excited to create with us.

Benefits:

  • Flexible schedule

Application Question(s):
