You are a highly creative storyteller with a proven track record in videography and video editing. You are well versed in the various camera systems used at CBC/Radio-Canada and possess a deep understanding of digital trends — specifically vertical video creation and online video best practices. Key tasks:

  • Conceive and develop story and video ideas and concepts for digital platforms.
  • Develop the story content, at times in conjunction with one or more journalists, including the researching, writing and/or editing of written material. Determine the style, pace, tempo and format of the story item.
  • Perform location surveys and identify special requirements such as audio, lighting, camera angles, production limitations, etc.
  • Book facilities required for the production, shooting, editing and assembly of material.
  • Write material, prepare questions and develop background on stories and interview subjects.
  • Develop shot list and sequences that contribute to the focus and mood of the story.
  • Prepare, align, set up and operate the camera and ancillary equipment, ensuring optimal audio, video and technical quality under prevailing conditions.
  • Light the subject or scene and compose program visual material using a hand-held camera. Ensure that the material produced meets technical and esthetic requirements for editing.
  • Shoot or oversee the shooting of program material.
  • Edit or direct the editing of recorded items on appropriate/available editing systems.
  • Perform the following tasks as required:

    • Perform final edit.
    • Report the story, either on camera or in voice-over form.
    • Arrange for and conduct interviews.
    • Maintain a basic library of stock footage and archival information.
    • Perform routine minor maintenance on camera, editing and associated equipment.
    • In the field, carry out emergency repairs to camera and/or equipment.
    • Provide leadership and guidance for performers and crew.
    • Provide talent and crew with feedback to assist their performance.

This role requires full-time on-site presence.
