Utopian Visuals is a POC woman-owned, creator-led digital media brand dedicated to authentic storytelling, creative expression, and building an inclusive, sex-positive online community. As a growing solo-owned business, I'm building my first creative team to help streamline production and elevate the quality and consistency of my content.

The brand values authenticity, creativity, personal empowerment, and producing content that fosters genuine connections with a loyal online audience. Projects primarily consist of long-form videos ranging from 5–20 minutes, with an emphasis on engaging storytelling, thoughtful pacing, attention to detail, and delivering a polished final product.

Job Summary

The Video Editor is responsible for transforming raw footage into polished, engaging long-form content that aligns with the brand's creative vision and resonates with a loyal online audience. This role requires strong storytelling instincts, an eye for pacing and visual detail, proficiency with modern editing tools, and the ability to maintain a consistent visual identity across multiple digital platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Edit, organize, and assemble long-form video content in Adobe Premiere Pro
• Create and animate title cards, lower thirds, graphics, and other visual elements
• Enhance videos with music, sound design, color correction, captions, and motion graphics
• Collaborate closely with the creator to understand creative direction, project goals, and audience engagement
• Deliver polished, high-quality edits while maintaining a consistent brand aesthetic
• Stay current on video editing trends, AI-powered tools, and emerging post-production workflows
• Research and implement new editing techniques and technologies to improve production quality and efficiency
• Organize project files, media assets, and archives for efficient collaboration
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously while consistently meeting deadlines

Requirements

• Proven experience as a video editor with a strong portfolio
• Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro (required)
• Experience with Red Giant Magic Bullet Cosmo, Beauty Box, or similar beauty-retouching plugins is a plus
• Experience with Adobe After Effects or other motion graphics software is a plus
• Understanding of video compression, encoding, and delivery best practices
• Strong storytelling instincts and attention to detail
• Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating in a fast-paced creative environment
• Comfortable receiving feedback and iterating quickly
• Bachelor's degree in Film, Video Production, or a related field is preferred but not required

Contract Details

• $25/hour during paid training
• 1099 independent contractor position
• Following training, editing assignments will be provided in batches of approximately 10–15 videos and compensated at a flat rate per completed video.
• Initial 3-month contract
• Hybrid (Oakland, CA)
• Part-time (approximately 40–60 hours per month)

This is the pay range the Company believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position, and the Company reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time.
