Job Overview
A Drone Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and their associated systems. The role combines aerospace, electronics, embedded systems, software, and operational expertise to deliver reliable drone solutions for surveillance, mapping, inspection, agriculture, logistics, or defense applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize drone airframes and propulsion systems.
- Integrate flight controllers, GPS modules, telemetry systems, cameras, and payloads.
- Configure and tune autopilot systems such as ArduPilot or PX4.
- Develop embedded software and control algorithms for autonomous flight.
- Conduct flight tests, analyze performance data, and implement improvements.
- Troubleshoot hardware, firmware, communication, and navigation issues.
- Ensure compliance with aviation regulations and safety standards.
- Prepare technical documentation, maintenance procedures, and test reports.
- Support drone deployment, operations, and customer training activities.
- Research emerging drone technologies and recommend enhancements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with drone systems, robotics, or embedded electronics.
- Understanding of aerodynamics, flight dynamics, and UAV operations.
- Knowledge of sensors, IMUs, GPS, telemetry, and RF communication.
- Experience with CAD tools and prototype development.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, C/C++, or MATLAB.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Pixhawk, CubePilot, ArduPilot, or PX4.
- Knowledge of ROS, computer vision, and AI-based navigation.
- Drone mission planning and Ground Control Stations (QGroundControl, Mission Planner).
- PCB design and embedded hardware development.
- Experience with LiDAR, EO/IR cameras, and mapping payloads.
- Familiarity with BVLOS and autonomous drone operations.
