Are you a qualified electrician looking to develop specialist skills in a unique and growing field? Join Downer Dunedin as a Traffic Signals \& ITS Electrician and play a key role in keeping our communities moving safely and efficiently.

This role is primarily focused on the installation, maintenance, and fault-finding of traffic signal systems and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) across the Dunedin region. While previous traffic signals experience is advantageous, it is not essential. We will provide comprehensive training and support to help you develop into a subject matter expert within this specialist area.

Key Responsibilities:

Traffic Signals \& ITS Maintenance: Install, maintain, repair and upgrade traffic signal systems, ITS equipment, and associated communications infrastructure to ensure reliable network performance.

Troubleshooting \& Fault Finding: Diagnose and resolve electrical, electronic, and system faults, providing efficient solutions to minimise downtime and maintain network safety.

Compliance: Ensure all work is completed in accordance with industry standards, safety regulations, and contractual requirements.

Documentation: Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, repairs, and compliance documentation.

Collaboration: Work closely with team members, subcontractors, clients, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes and support operational excellence.

Ngā Pūkenga Motuhake \| Important Skills

We are looking for candidates with EWRB registration / assessments along with the following skills and experience:

  • Must be a New Zealand Registered Electrician and hold a current EWRB practising licence.
  • Current Full Class 1 Driver Licence.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively manage your own workload.
  • Able and willing to complete essential daily safety documentation, job sheets, and timesheets.
  • Flexibility to travel and stay away from home on occasion when required.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call roster.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Solid computer skills and confidence using a variety of software applications.

Ideally, you will bring experience in industrial electrical systems, electronics, communications infrastructure, or control systems. Exposure to programming, configuration, or fault-finding of automated systems would be advantageous, however these are not essential requirements. We are equally interested in electricians with strong problem-solving skills, a willingness to learn, and an interest in developing specialist expertise in traffic signals and ITS technologies.
