About the Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Test Automation Engineer to take an active role in all quality-assurance activities within an Agile squad.

You will help establish and implement testing best practices, design comprehensive test scenarios and build reliable automation solutions covering functional, regression and performance testing.

This is an opportunity to influence the squad’s quality culture, challenge existing approaches, share ideas and contribute to the wider QA community. You will collaborate closely with developers, analysts and other stakeholders throughout the software-delivery lifecycle.

Main Responsibilities

Test Design and Quality Assurance

• Implement best practices in test design and test automation.
• Design detailed test scenarios and test cases.
• Cover functional, regression and performance-testing requirements.
• Apply appropriate test-design techniques according to the solution and associated risks.
• Reinforce quality principles and practices within the squad.
• Promote early testing and continuous quality throughout the development lifecycle.
• Identify gaps, risks and opportunities to improve test coverage.
• Challenge existing processes constructively and propose improvements.

Test Automation

• Design, implement and maintain automated test scripts.
• Develop automation solutions using Java and JavaScript-based frameworks.
• Build and execute API tests with Postman and Karate.
• Create and maintain end-to-end tests with Cypress.
• Write clear and reusable scenarios using Gherkin.
• Apply BDD and TDD principles to support reliable software delivery.
• Integrate automated tests into continuous-integration pipelines.
• Analyze test results, investigate failures and support defect resolution.
• Maintain automation suites as applications and requirements evolve.

Agile Collaboration

• Participate actively in the Agile ceremonies of the squad and tribe.
• Collaborate with developers, business analysts, product stakeholders and other QA professionals.
• Share testing knowledge, good practices and reusable solutions.
• Contribute to the tribe’s QA community.
• Support continuous improvement across testing processes and tools.
• Help the team build quality into every stage of delivery.

Mandatory Requirements

• Senior professional experience in software testing and test automation.
• Strong hands-on expertise in Java.
• Strong knowledge of JSON.
• Experience with JavaScript-based testing frameworks.
• Practical experience with Postman.
• Practical experience implementing automated tests with Cypress.
• Practical experience using Karate for API test automation.
• Strong knowledge of Gherkin language.
• Solid understanding of test-design techniques.
• Experience designing functional, regression and performance tests.
• Experience implementing and maintaining test-automation scripts.
• Knowledge and practical application of BDD.
• Knowledge and practical application of TDD.
• Professional experience working with Agile Scrum practices.
• Experience with Git.
• Experience integrating automated tests into continuous-integration pipelines.
• Knowledge of SQL for test validation and data analysis.
• Fluent English.
• Ability to collaborate effectively and communicate testing concerns clearly.
• Availability to travel within and outside Portugal.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a Senior Test Automation Engineer with strong hands-on experience designing tests and developing maintainable automation solutions.

You are comfortable working with Java, JavaScript, JSON, Postman, Cypress, Karate, Gherkin, SQL, Git and continuous-integration environments. You understand how to apply BDD and TDD principles and can design effective functional, regression, API and performance tests.

Beyond executing tests, you actively contribute to the squad’s quality strategy. You challenge existing practices constructively, identify risks, suggest improvements and share knowledge with colleagues.

You are collaborative, analytical and quality-oriented, with the confidence to influence technical discussions and promote automation best practices. Experience in banking or life insurance and knowledge of French will be particularly valuable.
