About the Role
We are looking for a Hardware Engineer / Technical Project Lead to help make Lenovo’s next-generation notebook PCs more sustainable.
You will work at the intersection of Hardware Engineering, Product Development, and Sustainability, turning sustainability goals into practical product and design improvements.
What You Will Do
- Drive sustainable technology development initiatives for notebook PC products from concept through execution, balancing technical feasibility, business impact, cost, schedule, and customer value.
- Focused on climate change mitigation and circular economy by driving product sustainability improvements, including carbon reduction, repairability, recyclability, energy efficiency, and sustainable material adoption.
- Use engineering data, product carbon footprint insights, supplier input, and product requirements to identify design opportunities.
- Partner with cross-functional teams and external partners to convert sustainability ideas into clear roadmaps, design requirements, proof points, and implementation plans.
- Facilitate alignment across diverse stakeholders by communicating complex technical and sustainability topics clearly in both English and Japanese.
- Build trust-based collaboration with global teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners; manage trade-offs constructively and keep projects moving through ambiguity.
- Contribute to Lenovo ESG initiatives by sharing best practices, and helping create reusable methods, templates, and knowledge assets.
What We Are Looking For
Must Have
- 5+ years of experience in product development, hardware/technology development, or cross-functional engineering projects.
- Experience working with suppliers, ODMs, manufacturers, or external partners.
- Experience working in a global / multicultural environment.
- Strong project management, stakeholder management, influencing, and negotiation skills.
- Strong communication skills in both English and Japanese.
Nice to Have
- Experience in notebook PCs, smartphones, consumer electronics, or other hardware products.
- Strong knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, Electro-mechanical, or System-level Hardware Engineering.
- Understanding of climate change mitigation, circular economy, design for repairability, energy efficiency, sustainable materials, and/or product carbon footprint reduction.
- Understanding of Life Cycle Assessment for consumer electronics devices, including how primary data, and secondary data are used.
- Experience leading projects and influencing stakeholders without formal authority.
- Interest in using AI and data to improve sustainability and product development.
In Simple Terms
This is not a traditional ESG reporting role. You will use your hardware/product development experience to make Lenovo notebook PCs more sustainable, while working with engineering teams, suppliers, and global stakeholders to turn sustainability ideas into real product improvements.
