The Facilities Mechanical Engineer plays a critical role in supporting24/7 continuous semiconductor manufacturing operations. This dual-function role serves as both the Mechanical System Owner (HVAC, cleanroom recirculating units, PCW, and process exhaust) and the Tool Hook-Up Lead for process equipment. The engineer is responsible for ensuring uninterrupted utility supply, managing capital expansion projects, and executing tool install hook-ups from point-of-connection(POC) to process equipment.
Your role
Key responsibilities in your new role
- Tool Hook-Up Planning \& Execution Matrix \& Design Review: Review tool matrix data sheets (P\&IDs, tool installation drawings, flow/pressure specs) provided by process equipment owners. Hook-Up Design: Plan, design, and lay out mechanical utility connections(Process Cooling Water [PCW], Exhaust, Compressed Dry Air [CDA], Vacuum, and HVAC ducting). Field Coordination: Lead trade contractors during field walkdowns, point-of-connection (POC) allocations, space management, and pipe routing in the fab, sub-fab, and cleanroom. QA/QC \& Commissioning: Oversee pressure testing, leak testing, cleanroom protocol compliance, and sign-offs prior to tool power-on.
- Mechanical System Ownership System Operations: Act as primary technical owner for assigned mechanical utilities—such as Cleanroom HVAC/AHUs, Process Cooling Water(PCW) loops, General/Acid/Solvent Exhaust systems, and Chilled Water plants. Capacity \& Demand Management: Track utility consumption, monitor system headroom, and model future loading to prevent capacity bottlenecks as new tools are installed. Reliability \& Continuous Improvement: Monitor FMCS/BMS data, Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts, and equipment alarms to troubleshoot root causes and eliminate single points of failure.
- Project Management \& Contractor Oversight Capital Projects: Manage small-to-large facility mechanical modification projects from design to startup and final handover. Procurement: Prepare scope of work (SOW) documents, Requests for Quotation (RFQs), and technical evaluations for equipment purchases and vendor contracts. Safety \& Code Compliance: Ensure all mechanical designs and installations comply with local building codes, NFPA standards, SEMIS2/S8 standards, and site EHS guidelines.
Your profile
Qualifications and skills to help you succeed
- Profile Education \& Experience Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Experience: 3–7+ years of mechanical engineering experience in high-tech manufacturing.
- Direct experience in semiconductor fabrication plants(fabs) or cleanroom environments is highly preferred.
- Technical Competencies Tool Hook-Up: Deep working knowledge of process equipment tool installation protocols, P\&IDs, isometric drawings, and clean room standards (ISO 6–8).
- Mechanical Systems: Proven expertise in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, piping design, HVAC design, exhaust abatement, and hydronic balancing. Software Tools: Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit (BIM), and facility monitoring software (FMCS/SCADA/BMS).
- Standards: Familiarity with SEMI standards (SEMI S2), IBC/IMC building codes, and NFPA guidelines.
- Soft Skills \& Working Style Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to work smoothly between equipment suppliers, facility technicians, EHS teams, and manufacturing managers.
