Job Description -

We are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our global Legal and Compliance team in Romania. This role is part of the global Privacy Office and involves legal guidance on privacy and AI compliance. You will be joining a professional, supportive, and collaborative team that highly values teamwork and mutual respect. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in European privacy law and data protection, including EU and UK GDPR and the EU AI Act. You have a proven track record of providing practical and commercial legal advice while ensuring compliance with privacy and AI regulations. Professional skills and responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to:

Responsibilities

• Serve as the organization’s subject matter authority on data privacy and protection law, providing strategic legal counsel on EU and UK GDPR, the e-Privacy Directive, the AI Act, and emerging regulatory frameworks.
• Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of Genpact’s privacy governance framework, including policies, procedures, and standards.
• Oversee and advise on complex privacy risk assessments, including data privacy impact assessments, privacy maturity reviews, client audits, data subject rights frameworks, and AI governance matters.
• Advise on AI-related products and services under the EU AI Act.
• Support the organization’s response to data security incidents and breaches, directing investigations, coordinating with regulators, and advising senior management on legal risk and remediation strategy.
• Act as a trusted legal partner to senior leadership and cross-functional teams, embedding privacy-by-design principles across business operations and strategic initiatives.
• Lead the negotiation and drafting of complex data processing agreements, international data transfer mechanisms, and other privacy-related commercial contracts.
• Monitor and assess the evolving global privacy and AI regulatory landscape, translating legislative and regulatory developments into actionable updates to company policies, templates, and commercial frameworks.
• Drive a culture of privacy awareness across the organization by working with the compliance team on targeted training programs for employees, business leaders, and key stakeholders.
• Support the organization’s engagement with data protection authorities and regulators, including formal inquiries, investigations, and proactive regulatory dialogue.
• Strong knowledge of a wide range of legal subjects, with the ability to build on that knowledge, spot issues, and bring in specialists as needed.
