You will be working in the Pharmacy Service, based at Middlemore Hospital, one of the largest tertiary teaching hospitals in New Zealand. This positions primary focus is to manage the procurement of Inpatient Pharmacy medications for the Counties Manukau District. You will provide functional leadership and hands-on day to day coordination. You will be proactive at troubleshooting supply issues, so we can meet demand for medication supply in our organisation and minimise any impact at a patient level. Your approach is balanced, and you are financially savvy to minimise waste.

This is a dynamic role, with complex issues, working in a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate will use their existing knowledge and skills and develop further expertise in this area. Previous hospital experience is required. We provide an environment where innovative ideas and methods of working are encouraged.

Daily duties will include:

  • Ordering and Inventory Control
  • Managing Master Data
  • Stock Problem Resolution
  • Invoicing and Finance reconciliation
  • System troubleshooting and testing
  • Assigned tasks from Medication Safety
  • Reporting and Quality Improvement
  • Work collaboratively with Pharmacy team and other Counties staff as well as external agencies, such as other hospitals, wholesalers and PHARMAC

Essential for this position:

  • Minimum qualification held - National Certificate in Pharmacy (Pharmacy Technician) level 5 issued by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority, and preferably in Procurement, Inventory, or a Level 6 Pharmacy Technician post-graduate qualification
  • At least three years experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital (or pharmaceutical industry) setting with experience in Procurement/Inventory Control
  • Knowledge of NZ Health systems and medicines
  • Intermediate level computer skills - MS Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, Pharmacy Systems e.g., ePharmacy and Pyxis
  • Analytical ability and Financial Skills
  • Organisational and Planning skills
  • Professional and able to work collaboratively within a team
  • Able to self-manage workload to a deadline, prioritising and managing time efficiently with a minimum level of supervision
  • Good problem-solving and communication skills
  • Able to lift and carry inventory orders up to 20kg
  • Responsible, trustworthy, confident, dependable, enquiring, and proactive
