Key ResponsibilitiesMaternal Ultrasound Services
- Perform postpartum pelvic ultrasound examinations
- Assess uterine involution after delivery.
- Identify retained products of conception when clinically indicated.
- Monitor postpartum bleeding and recovery.
- Perform breast ultrasound for mothers experiencing:
- Breast engorgement
- Mastitis
- Blocked milk ducts
- Breast abscess (when indicated)
- Document findings accurately and promptly.
Patient Care
- Explain ultrasound procedures clearly to mothers and family members.
- Ensure patient privacy, dignity, and comfort.
- Obtain informed consent where required.
- Provide emotional reassurance during examinations.
- Maintain infection prevention and control standards.
Clinical Documentation
- Produce accurate ultrasound reports.
- Upload images into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Maintain confidential patient records.
- Ensure all documentation complies with Ministry of Health regulations.
Equipment Management
- Operate ultrasound equipment safely.
- Perform routine equipment checks.
- Report faults immediately.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and servicing.
- Ensure probes are disinfected according to infection control guidelines.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
Work closely with:
- Obstetricians
- Paediatricians
- Family Medicine Specialists
- Nurses
- Midwives
- Lactation Consultants
- Dietitians
- Physiotherapists
- Wellness Team
Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions when required.
Health Education
Educate mothers on:
- Normal postpartum recovery
- Breastfeeding-related conditions
- When to seek medical attention
- Importance of follow-up imaging
- Infant developmental monitoring
Quality Assurance
- Maintain image quality standards.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Assist in accreditation activities.
- Ensure compliance with radiation-free ultrasound safety practices.
QualificationsEducation
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound / Medical Imaging / Sonography.
Registration
- Registered with relevant Malaysian professional bodies.
- Current Annual Practising Certificate .
Experience
- Minimum 1 years of ultrasound experience.
- Experience in obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound preferred.
- Experience in neonatal or paediatric ultrasound is an advantage.
- Experience working in hospitals, women's health centres, fertility clinics, or maternity centres is preferred.
