Job Description

The package

£35,000–£37,000 basic + performance related bonus (OTE £41,000–£43,000+) + £5,400 car allowance

The opportunity

We are looking for a confident, commercially minded Software Account Manager to join Public Sector Software Ltd and take ownership of a portfolio of existing customers while also helping us to grow.

This is a varied role combining account management, customer success, software sales and product training. You will build strong relationships with customers, help them get the best possible value from our software, identify opportunities to expand their use of our products and take new prospects through the sales process from initial conversation to close.

You will be joining an established software business with customers across the UK and some internationally. This is a role where you can have a genuine impact: you will know your customers, understand their organisations and see the direct results of the relationships and revenue you develop.

It would suit someone who enjoys building relationships but also has a commercial mindset – someone who is comfortable talking to customers, demonstrating software, spotting opportunities and asking for the business.

What you'll be doing

Manage and grow existing customer relationships

You will take ownership of a portfolio of customers and become their key contact within PSS.

You will:

  • Build strong, long-term relationships with customers and key stakeholders.
  • Understand how customers use our software and identify opportunities to improve adoption and value.
  • Manage customer queries and coordinate with colleagues to make sure issues are followed through and communicated clearly.
  • Support customer retention and renewals.
  • Identify opportunities for upselling
  • Develop relationships with other teams and departments within customer organisations to create further opportunities.
  • Onboard new users.
  • Gather customer feedback and work with our development and wider team to communicate product requirements and improvement ideas.
  • Maintain accurate customer, opportunity and activity records within our CRM.

Develop new business

Alongside managing existing customers, you will help us win new business in our established and developing markets.

You will:

  • Follow up inbound sales and marketing opportunities and qualify prospective customers.
  • Hold discovery conversations to understand customer requirements.
  • Deliver engaging online and face-to-face software demonstrations.
  • Prepare quotations and proposals.
  • Manage opportunities through the sales process and confidently close business
  • Onboard new customers and users
  • Maintain an accurate sales pipeline and work towards agreed sales targets.
  • Develop relationships with key decision-makers and potential customers.
  • Identify new organisations and markets that could benefit from our products.
  • Represent PSS at exhibitions, conferences and industry events.
  • Contribute ideas and market insight to our wider business-development plans.

Deliver customer training

Helping customers use our products successfully is an important part of the role.

You will:

  • Identify customers' training and knowledge requirements.
  • Deliver engaging product training online and in person.
  • Help develop and improve our customer training materials and programme.
  • Support customer User Groups and other customer engagement activities.

About you

We are less interested in finding someone who ticks every possible box than someone who has the right combination of commercial awareness, confidence, curiosity and customer focus.

You are likely to be someone who:

  • Has experience in account management, customer success, B2B sales or a similar customer-facing commercial role.

· Experience within SaaS, software, technology or the public sector would be advantageous, but is not essential if you have strong transferable commercial and account-management experience.

  • Is confident developing relationships with customers at different levels of an organisation.
  • Enjoys understanding what customers need and finding practical solutions.
  • Can identify commercial opportunities within existing accounts as well as develop new business.
  • Is comfortable presenting or demonstrating products to individuals and groups.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally by phone, email, online meeting and face to face.
  • Is organised and able to manage a portfolio of customers, opportunities and competing priorities.
  • Is comfortable using CRM systems and keeping accurate records.
  • Is confident learning software and explaining it to people with different levels of technical ability.
  • Is proactive and able to work independently rather than waiting to be given every next step.
  • Takes responsibility for following things through and delivering a high standard of customer service.

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential, as the role involves travel to customer meetings, training sessions, exhibitions and events.

What makes this role different?

This isn't a role where account management simply means responding to customer enquiries.

You will have genuine ownership of your customer relationships – from onboarding and ongoing support through to retention, account growth and renewal. You will also have the opportunity to win new customers, demonstrate our software and contribute ideas about how we develop our products and markets.

For someone who enjoys both people and commercial results, it offers considerable variety and the opportunity to make a visible contribution to the growth of the business.
