Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting for a Senior Student Recruitment Adviser to join the Future Students team on a permanent, full-time contract.

This is a senior recruitment role combining strategy, analysis, relationship management and hands-on delivery.

As a Senior Student Recruitment Adviser, you'll use market insight, recruitment data and faculty knowledge to identify priorities and deliver targeted recruitment activity that makes a difference.

You'll work closely with an assigned faculty or recruitment portfolio while contributing to the wider Student Recruitment team, helping us make smarter decisions about where we focus our efforts and how we support prospective students from first interest through to enrolment.

The focus is on purposeful recruitment: understanding what we are trying to achieve, choosing the right intervention, and learning from the results.

Key responsibilities:

• Develop and deliver a focused recruitment plan for an assigned faculty or recruitment portfolio.
• Analyse enquiry, lead, application and other recruitment information to identify opportunities, risks and priorities.
• Provide specialist advice to faculty leaders and colleagues on student decision-making, programme positioning, recruitment activity and where effort will have the greatest value.
• Design, lead and contribute to targeted recruitment and conversion activity for priority programmes and student audiences.
• Provide credible, accurate programme and pathway advice to prospective students, whānau, schools and other influencers.
• Proactively progress priority leads and cohorts through the recruitment journey, working with colleagues to address barriers to application, offer acceptance and enrolment.
• Evaluate recruitment activity and turn results, feedback and market intelligence into practical recommendations for improvement.

We’re looking for someone who combines strong judgement and relationship skills with a genuine recruitment mindset.

Key requirements:

• Experience developing and delivering plans against clear objectives and outcomes.
• Confidence interpreting recruitment, pipeline, customer or similar data and turning it into practical priorities and actions.
• Experience managing or progressing leads, enquiries or customer pipelines, including effective follow-up.
• Ability to build trusted relationships, influence others and work constructively across different parts of a complex organisation.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to make complex information clear and relevant for different audiences.
• Experience designing and delivering targeted engagement, events or activity with a clear purpose and intended outcome.
• Experience using a CRM, maintaining good records, reporting on activity and using evidence to improve future performance.
• Relevant tertiary qualification.
• Knowledge of the domestic student recruitment lifecycle and the secondary school environment is desirable rather than essential.

Experience in higher education or student recruitment would be valuable, but we are also interested in people who can bring relevant experience from areas such as recruitment, business development, marketing, account or relationship management, customer conversion, education or other environments where influencing decisions and progressing people through a journey are central to success.
