Job Summary
We are looking for a strong hands-on Senior QA/QC Engineer who can establish and lead the quality function from scratch in a steel fabrication company.
The candidate must be able to raise the company quality level, improve welders’ efficiency, train the production team on best fabrication practices, reduce repeated defects, and control the full quality process for UL-spec diesel tanks, trailers, chassis, canopies, cabins, containerized units, and painting/coating works.
This role is not only for inspection. The candidate must be practical, shop-floor oriented, and capable of teaching, guiding, and correcting the team directly during fabrication, welding, assembly, and painting activities.
Main Responsibilities
- Establish QA/QC procedures, inspection checklists, quality standards, NCR/CAPA system, and final release process.
- Improve the quality level of fabrication, welding, assembly, painting, and final finishing works.
- Train and guide welders, fabricators, painters, and production teams on correct working methods and defect prevention.
- Raise welders’ efficiency by improving fit-up quality, welding sequence, distortion control, grinding quality, and rework reduction.
- Inspect and control raw material, cutting, bending, fit-up, welding, assembly, leakage testing, painting, and final dispatch stages.
- Control quality for UL-spec diesel tanks, trailers, chassis, canopies, cabins, skids, containers, and fabricated steel structures.
- Inspect welding quality, dimensions, squareness, alignment, mounting points, openings, brackets, and final assembly accuracy.
- Witness leakage tests, pneumatic tests, hydrostatic tests where applicable, and final functional checks.
- Control painting/coating quality including surface preparation, primer, epoxy, PU topcoat, bitumen coating, WFT/DFT, curing, adhesion, and coating defects.
- Identify root causes of repeated defects and implement corrective/preventive actions with production.
- Prepare inspection reports, quality records, test reports, NCRs, CAPA reports, MRB, and final quality dossiers.
- Coordinate with engineering, production, painting, client inspection, and management to improve quality performance.
Required Experience
- 3–5 years QA/QC experience in steel fabrication, tanks, trailers, chassis, canopies, cabins, containers, or similar fabricated products.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of welding, fabrication drawings, dimensional inspection, leakage testing, painting/coating inspection, NCR, CAPA, and final product release.
- Experience with UL-spec tanks such as UL 142, UL 58, or similar diesel/fuel tank standards is preferred.
- Strong practical knowledge of welding defects, fit-up issues, distortion control, grinding quality, and fabrication best practices.
- Strong knowledge of epoxy primer, PU topcoat, zinc-rich primer, enamel paint, bitumen coating, WFT, DFT, curing time, adhesion, and coating defect analysis.
- Ability to build a quality system, train shop-floor teams, reduce rework, and improve production quality.
- CSWIP / AWS-CWI / NDT Level II / BGAS / NACE certification is an advantage."
