BNZ's Mobile Platform Team keeps the engine running to support all our feature teams, and we're looking for a Senior iOS Developer who thrives at the intersection of iOS development, build infrastructure, and platform quality.

About the Role | Mō te Tūranga

This is not a typical feature-delivery iOS role. As a Senior iOS Developer in the Mobile Platform Team, you will be responsible for improving the infrastructure and tooling experience that every iOS developer at BNZ depends on every day — from maintaining our CI/CD pipeline to exploring the latest and greatest updates from Apple. You will collaborate with various teams and stakeholders, which enables them to implement modern technology foundations to build market-leading experiences.

We are a tight-knit, high-impact team takes pride in our craft and our impact on the wider iOS engineering community at BNZ. We communicate openly with our stakeholders through regular updates, run chapter-wide swarms for big migrations, and pair closely with security, infrastructure, and enterprise teams on cross-cutting work. We believe in doing things properly, documenting our decisions, and leaving the platform better than we found it.

We also know how to have fun. Expect daily quizzes, coffee catchups, and a team that doesn't take itself too seriously. A good sense of humour is not listed under required skills, but it certainly helps.

What are some of the responsibilities of this role?

• Own and improve the iOS build pipelines , including addressing reliability issues, optimising the CI/CD performance and looking for ways to save on build costs.
• Adhering to BNZ's security policy , which involves working with teams to ensure our mobile codebase meets security and compliance standards.
• Keeping the iOS platform up to date , where you'll plan and execute the major Apple platform upgrades across our mobile apps like Xcode & Swift.
• Champion and improve code quality standards , where you'll collaborate with all iOS feature teams to uplift quality across the codebase and extend standards to new areas of the app.
• Support the broader iOS engineering community , as we act as the iOS platform expert for all of BNZ Technology.

• Successful candidates will contribute to building a strong foundation with modern technology.
• They proactively optimise the iOS build pipeline and keeping BNZ compliant with Apple's App Store requirements.
• They ensure the wider teams get clear signal from builds and spend less time fighting flaky tests or cryptic failures.
• They build trust with the iOS engineering community so that they have the tools they need, and can self-serve on common tasks.
• Their efforts will result in a seamless and improved digital experience for BNZ customers, with faster and easier navigation and a unified experience across web and mobile platform.
• They consider the needs of the wider teams by documenting decisions, building things that can be handed over.

What specific skills and experience would be beneficial for this role?

• Strong experience building and maintaining iOS apps using Swift (Familiarity in Objective-C is a bonus).
• Comfortable working deep in a large modular codebase.
• Thrives in collaborating with a diverse range of roles and disciplines.
• Experience writing unit tests, UI automation tests and able to diagnose flakiness and drive systematic improvement across a large codebase.
• Hands-on experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with modern Swift concurrency.
