You’ll join the Health, Safety & Wellbeing unit within the Corporate Services Group — a team focused on helping our kaimahi stay safe, healthy, and able to thrive at work. In this role, you’ll work closely with HSW Advisors, People & Capability, and leaders across the organisation, providing specialist guidance that strengthens wellbeing capability and supports positive, practical outcomes for all staff.

As our Senior Health & Wellbeing Advisor, you will be the organisation’s lead expert in operational health, wellbeing, and psychosocial risk management. The role goes well beyond day today case management or routine advice.

You’ll shape and influence the organisation’s overall approach to wellbeing, strengthen systems and practices, and help create a workplace where people feel supported, safe, and able to perform at their best.

You will:

  • Provide high-level specialist advice on injury and illness management, rehabilitation, and complex wellbeing cases

  • Lead the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of proactive wellbeing initiatives and occupational health frameworks

  • Offer expert guidance to leaders, HSW Advisors, and HR Business Partners across a wide range of wellbeing matters

  • Deliver engaging training, education, and organisational capability building

  • Monitor and support compliance with relevant legislation, ACC AEP requirements, and best practice standards

  • Promote a positive, sustainable wellbeing culture across Council at all levels This is a senior advisory role where you’ll influence strategic direction while still being hands-on supporting everyday wellbeing outcomes.

About you | Ko koe tēnei

You’ll bring substantial experience in wellbeing, mental health, occupational health, or a related field, along with strong capability in case management, injury and illness recovery, and organisational wellbeing practice.

To be successful, you will have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., Nursing, Mental Health, Social Work, Psychology)

  • A formal Health & Safety qualification (minimum Level 4)

  • ACC AEP capability or experience

  • At least 7 years’ experience in a wellbeing or mental health environment

  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and best practice

  • Experience working in complex environments and partnering across diverse stakeholder groups

  • Demonstrated strategic advisory experience, including developing wellbeing frameworks, strategies, or organisational programmes.

  • Ideally, experience working in Government or Local Government, or other regulated/public-sector environments.

  • Experience applying psychosocial risk management and up to date wellbeing practices.

  • Wellbeing or mental health accreditation (e.g. MHFA Trainer, registered clinician, or similar)

  • The ability to influence, educate, and build capability in others.

  • The ability to interpret and apply legislation in complex operational environments

  • A full NZ driver licence
