The role
We are looking for an experienced accounting leader to take full ownership of the accounting function across Rystad Energy's APAC region. This is a broad, senior role at the heart of a growing international finance function, with direct responsibility for entity-level accounting, reporting, and compliance across Singapore, China, Malaysia, Australia, Japan, and India.
Based in Kuala Lumpur and reporting directly to the Head of Group Accounting in Oslo, you will be a key member of the global finance team — working closely with group accounting on consolidation, intercompany processes, and group reporting. The role works closely with the local Head of Office in Singapore on day-to-day matters.
This role suits a technically strong, proactive accounting leader who is comfortable operating independently across multiple jurisdictions, building trust with group management from a distance, and driving process improvement in a fast-paced, technology-forward environment. This is a hands-on role — you will be expected to stay close to the detail, take direct ownership of day-to-day operations, and be personally involved in the work across the region.
Key responsibilities
Day-to-day operations
- Own month-end close and financial reporting for all APAC entities — Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Japan, India and China, ensuring accuracy and completeness of trial balances, reconciliations, and intercompany balances
- Perform operational tasks directly where needed, including issuing intercompany invoices, approving AP and bank payments across multiple entities and banking platforms, reviewing payroll — this is a hands-on role requiring direct system access and daily operational involvement
- Support and collaborate with the revenue controllers on day-to-day APAC invoicing, client portals, and AR follow-up
Compliance, relationships and improvement
- Manage statutory reporting, audits, and local compliance filings across all APAC jurisdictions
- Manage relationships with local external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors across the region
- Directly manage and develop local accounting staff across APAC entities, including the Accounting Manager in China
- Lead the insourcing of accounting services across APAC entities, building a scalable regional structure
- Identify and drive process improvements, standardization, and system integration across entities
Reporting and collaboration
- Coordinate with group accounting in Oslo on consolidation, intercompany, and group reporting requirements
- Ensure timely and accurate trial balance submissions into the group consolidation system
- Provide proactive, transparent reporting to group management in Oslo — keeping the team informed without being prompted
- Build strong working relationships with group accounting, FP\&A, and senior management across the organization
Who we are looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CA, CPA, ACCA or equivalent preferred
- 8+ years of accounting experience with multi-entity or regional scope, ideally across APAC jurisdictions
- Comfortable being hands-on and operational — this role requires direct involvement in transactions, reconciliations, and day-to-day processes, not only oversight or strategic direction
- Strong technical accounting skills; IFRS knowledge is an advantage
- Hands-on experience with accounting systems; Xero familiarity is an advantage
- Proven ability to manage statutory reporting and compliance across multiple jurisdictions including Singapore, China, Malaysia, Australia, Japan, and/or India
- Comfortable working with AI tools and technology to improve efficiency and quality
- Self-driven and able to work independently with a remote reporting line, while keeping group management actively and proactively informed
- Strong communicator — proactive, transparent, and able to present financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders
- Fluent in English (written and spoken); additional Asian language skills are an advantage
Benefits
- A global company well recognized within the energy space for its high levels of competence and independence
- A diverse, dynamic and international highly skilled working environment
- Competitive compensation and benefits
- Being part of a quickly expanding global business with new development opportunities
