Job Description

About Medical Departures Inc.

Medical Departures Inc. is the world leader in finding and booking global doctors and dentists, with a network of 6,000+ clinics and hospitals and 10,000+ doctors and dentists across 29 countries.

We are a fully remote company. Our 50+ team members are spread across Latin America, Europe, Africa, and Asia — forming a well-linked network across diverse locations, lifestyles, and backgrounds. We move fast, take ownership, and care deeply about helping patients access world-class healthcare across borders.

About the Role

The Senior Accounting \& Finance Manager is a key member of Medical Departures' financial leadership team, reporting directly to the CEO. You will own the full accounting and finance function across multiple jurisdictions (US, BVI, Singapore, Thailand, UK), lead a small global team, and partner with senior leadership on planning, compliance, and cash flow strategy.

This role is ideal for a hands-on senior finance professional who thrives in a remote-first, multi-currency environment and is excited to scale a finance function inside a high-growth international healthcare marketplace.

Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Planning, Analysis \& Reporting

  • Financial planning \& forecasting: Develop and monitor budgets, financial plans, and rolling forecasts; report variance analysis to the CEO and leadership team.
  • Financial reporting: Prepare and analyse monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (P\&L, balance sheet, cash flow) under both US GAAP and IFRS; deliver board-ready reporting packs.
  • Cash flow management: Build, maintain, and present a rolling 13-week cash flow forecast incorporating clinic-level revenue (EGBV), AR aging factors, AP timing, and FX exposure.

Accounting Operations

  • Accounts Receivable leadership: Lead the AR team to hit monthly collection and revenue targets; oversee clinic invoicing, collections follow-up, escalation management, and contract dispute resolution.
  • Accounts Payable operations: Own the full AP cycle from invoice recognition through approval workflow to payment runs.
  • General ledger \& close: Own monthly close, intercompany reconciliations, multi-entity consolidation, and revenue recognition across all jurisdictions.
  • Payroll oversight: Ensure accurate, timely payroll processing across multiple geographies in coordination with local providers.

Compliance, Audit \& Risk

  • Multi-jurisdiction compliance: Maintain corporate compliance in the US, BVI, Singapore, Thailand, and the UK — including Shareholder Register, Minutes of Board Meetings, statutory filings, and regulatory updates.
  • Audit \& tax: Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors and tax advisors; ensure timely, accurate completion of statutory audits and tax filings (corporate tax, VAT/GST, withholding tax, transfer pricing documentation).
  • Internal controls: Design and implement internal controls and SOPs to ensure compliance with financial policies and minimise fraud risk.
  • Risk management: Identify and mitigate financial risks including FX, interest rate, credit, and counterparty risk.

Systems, Strategy \& Stakeholders

  • Financial systems: Oversee the implementation, configuration, and ongoing improvement of accounting tools (Xero, expense management, AR/AP automation).
  • Payment operations: Support the Payment Gates function — communicate project rationale, progress, and impact across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strategic partnership: Collaborate with the CEO, COO, and senior leadership to translate financial insight into strategic decisions.
  • Leadership \& development: Lead, coach, and develop a global team of 3–5 finance professionals; set goals, run quarterly 1:1s, and grow bench strength.
  • Stakeholder management: Build and maintain relationships with banks, payment processors, investors, auditors, and regulators.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial / team-lead capacity.
  • Hands-on experience with US GAAP and IFRS in a multi-entity, multi-currency environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of full-cycle accounting including revenue recognition (ASC 606 / IFRS 15).
  • Advanced Excel / Google Sheets — comfortable building cash flow models, variance analysis, and dashboards from scratch.
  • Excellent written and spoken English (business-fluent, board-level communication).
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously across time zones in a fully remote setting.
  • Availability for at least 3 hours of daily overlap with US Pacific Time.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Big 4 audit experience (Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG) at Senior Associate level or above.
  • Public-company financial reporting experience.
  • Xero key-user / power-user experience; experience implementing or migrating to Xero is a strong plus.
  • Zoho CRM or comparable CRM exposure for revenue reconciliation.
  • AI fluency for finance — comfortable using Claude (or equivalent LLMs) and AI features inside Excel and Google Sheets to accelerate reconciliations, variance commentary, formula generation, data cleaning, and reporting workflows.
  • Industry experience in healthcare, medical tourism, travel-tech, marketplaces, or cross-border e-commerce.
  • Working knowledge of Thai PIT, US tax (federal \& state), Singapore corporate tax, or UK statutory filings.
  • Experience with payment gateways, multi-currency settlements, and FX hedging.
  • Prior experience scaling a finance function in a high-growth or PE/VC-backed company.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional certification: CPA, ACCA, CA, or equivalent (active membership preferred).

Personal Attributes

  • Proactive, accountable, and resourceful — owns problems end-to-end.
  • High attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger picture.
  • Strong analytical and structured-thinking skills.
  • Friendly, collaborative communicator — comfortable on Google Meet, Zoom, Slack, and async written communication.
  • Result-oriented with a 'can-do' attitude and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity inside a lean, fast-paced, remote organisation.

Compensation \& Benefits

Salary Band: USD 3,500 - 4,500 per month (Independent Contractor), commensurate with experience, certifications, and track record. Final offer will be calibrated against jurisdiction, qualifications, and Big 4 / public-company exposure.
