Location: Auckland, New Zealand

Extensive travel across the North Island and occasional South Island travel required

Vines and Springs Limited is a New Zealand registered wholesale business specialising in garments, jewellery, gemstones, fashion accessories, home décor products, and export trading. We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Retail Buyer to support our sourcing, merchandising, market development, and retail expansion activities across New Zealand.

The successful candidate will play a key role in identifying profitable product lines, developing supplier relationships, promoting products through weekend and flea markets, and expanding the company’s retail and export presence.

Key Responsibilities

• Source and purchase garments, jewellery, gemstones, silver and gold products, fashion accessories, and home décor items suitable for wholesale and retail distribution
• Identify emerging market trends, customer preferences, and seasonal demand to support profitable product selection and stock planning
• Analyse sales performance, inventory turnover, and customer demand to optimise stock levels and purchasing decisions
• Develop relationships with local and international suppliers, manufacturers, and distributors to secure competitive pricing and quality products
• Negotiate supply agreements, delivery schedules, pricing structures, and promotional support arrangements with suppliers
• Coordinate and participate in flea markets, weekend markets, exhibitions, and promotional events throughout the North Island to increase product visibility and sales
• Develop and expand retail and wholesale customer networks across New Zealand
• Work closely with management to implement merchandising, pricing, promotional, and market expansion strategies
• Assist in identifying and developing export opportunities, including New Zealand wool and related export products
• Travel regularly throughout New Zealand to meet suppliers, attend markets, develop business opportunities, and monitor retail activities
• Ensure purchased products meet required quality, presentation, and commercial standards
• Monitor competitor activity, pricing trends, and consumer purchasing patterns to support strategic purchasing decisions

Employment Details

• Position Type: Full-Time Permanent
• Minimum Guaranteed Hours: 30 hours per week
• Pay Rate: NZD $30.00 to $38.00 per hour depending on experience and skills
• Additional earnings may be available through business development incentives and sales-related performance outcomes
• Primary Work Location: Auckland, New Zealand
• Frequent travel across the North Island and occasional South Island travel required

Minimum Requirements

• NZQF Level 4 qualification or equivalent in retail, merchandising, business, fashion, jewellery, or a related field

OR * Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in retail buying, wholesale purchasing, merchandise planning, jewellery/gemstone trading, or related industries

Essential Skills and Experience

• Demonstrated experience in buying and selling real gemstones, silver, and gold jewellery
• Strong understanding of retail merchandising, product sourcing, and inventory management
• Experience in garments, accessories, jewellery, and lifestyle product categories
• Strong negotiation and supplier relationship management skills
• Ability to identify market opportunities and consumer trends
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability and willingness to travel extensively for business development activities
• Previous experience in export trading or New Zealand wool export market development will be advantageous
• New Zealand Class 2 Driver Licence preferred
