2026/27 Counties Manukau Respiratory Medicine Fellow Position (Full Time Fixed Term)

We are currently inviting applications for a Respiratory Fellow beginning August 2026 for a one-year fixed term role at Counties Manukau.

The appointee will be appointed for 1 year and will do 50% clinical and 50% research activities. They will undertake respiratory clinics and acute cover for the clinical component. The research component will include an investigator-initiated research project in bronchiectasis and support for a variety of interesting respiratory pharmaceutical research studies. This will be an excellent opportunity to acquire and develop research skills.

Salary and conditions of service will be in accordance with the New Zealand ASMS Agreement.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Middlemore Hospital is the main hub for acute care and referral services within Counties Manukau district. It is an accredited, 800 bed, teaching hospital of Auckland University and caters for most medical and surgical specialties with a catchment area of about 500,000 people.

The Respiratory Medicine department is a well-established Respiratory unit, offering a range of comprehensive services including sleep and oxygen services, pulmonary rehabilitation, acute and chronic non-invasive ventilation, pulmonary hypertension, bronchoscopy, thoracoscopy, a fully equipped lung function laboratory, and a regional lung cancer service.

We have an interventional bronchoscopy service including, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), stents, cryobiopsy, and endobronchial valves. The department is active in research and has interests in a variety of areas including asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis, interstitial lung cancer, and pleural diseases. The respiratory clinical team consists of Respiratory Physicians, Registrars, Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Specialists, and respiratory physiologists and physiotherapists and administrators.

We have a cohesive team that will provide a very supportive and stimulating environment for a senior house officer or registrar. We have an effective research support network.

About you

Applicants must have suitable training and experience in General Medicine and Respiratory Medicine and be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
