The Waitangi Tribunal Unit provides a comprehensive range of services to the Waitangi Tribunal, a permanent commission of inquiry that inquires into and reports on claims submitted by Māori under the Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975.

Te Haeata/The Opportunity

We are looking for a hardworking, talented, and motivated person to join us as a Report Writing and Research Assistant in the Report Writing and Research Services teams within the Waitangi Tribunal Unit. The work will be split evenly across the two teams.

The Report Writing and Research Assistant provides research assistance for the Waitangi Tribunal-commissioned expert research reports for both historical and contemporary topics. These reports form part of the evidential record for Tribunal inquiries. The Report Writing and Research Assistant also provides proofreading, editing, and referencing assistance for Waitangi Tribunal reports on both historical and contemporary claims.

Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience

Well-developed verbal and written communication skills are required, as is the ability to plan and prioritise work. You will be familiar with legal and academic publishing requirements, and have the ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and work on multiple projects contemporaneously. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate an understanding of Te Reo Māori and tikanga.

You will have a tertiary qualification in New Zealand history, Māori studies, public policy, law, or other relevant disciplines, and be familiar with the use of Microsoft Office products.

Utu ā-tau/Salary

The appointing salary for this role will be between $60,279 and $80,794 based on skills and experience.
