Registered Nurse

The Oncology inpatient unit is a Level 6 referral centre providing the most complex diagnostics and treatment for all types of childhood cancer, including haematological malignancies. 11b inpatient unit cares for children with both malignant and life-threatening non-malignant disorders, and haemopoietic stem cell transplant procedures.

Typically, patients include children of all ages from 0-18 years

Cancer, receiving complex inpatient chemotherapy and supportive care for serious treatment related complications

Patients with haematological or other conditions that require specific chemotherapy treatments, and

Cancer and non-malignant conditions, receiving allogeneic and autologous haemopoietic stem cell transplant procedures.

About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) in oncology delivers safe compassionate clinical care; working collaboratively with the Healthcare team to achieve best practice patient outcomes. The RN engages in reflective, analytical practice through effective assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of direct person-centred care. The RN continually improves their skills and knowledge developing from graduate to highly skilled Registered Nurse.

Practice independently and interdependently.

Assume accountability and responsibility for their own actions and delegation of care to Enrolled nurses, Assistants in Nursing and healthcare workers.

Demonstrates evidence of increasing autonomy and exercises greater levels of professional judgement in the clinical environment as the employee moves from a beginning to experienced practitioner.
