About the opportunity
Ottawa Pain and Spine Institute is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and organized Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join our multidisciplinary clinical team.
OPSI is a specialized outpatient clinic providing comprehensive care for patients with chronic pain and spine-related conditions. Our services include fluoroscopy-guided interventional pain procedures, IV lidocaine and ketamine infusions, medication management, and other specialized pain treatments.
This opportunity is suited to a nurse with strong clinical judgment, a commitment to patient safety, and an interest in supporting patients throughout their treatment and recovery.
Key responsibilities
Responsibilities will be assigned according to professional designation, individual competence, patient care needs, available clinical support, and clinic policies. Duties may include:
- Assess patients and review medical histories, medications, allergies, vital signs, and other relevant clinical information.
- Prepare patients for interventional pain procedures and infusion treatments.
- Assist physicians during fluoroscopy-guided pain and spine procedures.
- Establish IV access and administer prescribed medications and IV therapies within authorized practice and demonstrated competence.
- Provide nursing care and monitoring for patients receiving IV lidocaine and ketamine infusions, where appropriate to the assigned role.
- Monitor patients before, during, and after treatment, including recovery and discharge readiness.
- Recognize changes in patient condition, escalate concerns promptly, and initiate appropriate emergency measures when required.
- Educate patients about their treatment, medications, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Follow infection prevention and control, medication administration, confidentiality, and patient-safety standards.
- Help maintain emergency equipment, medications, clinical supplies, and procedure-room readiness.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, medical radiation technologists, physician assistants, and administrative staff.
Required qualifications
- Current registration in good standing as an RN or RPN with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Strong clinical assessment, patient monitoring, and communication skills.
- Sound judgment, attention to detail, and accurate documentation.
- Ability to prioritize care and remain calm in a busy procedural setting.
- A professional, dependable, and collaborative approach to patient care.
Preferred experience
Experience in one or more of the following areas is an asset:
- IV insertion, IV therapy, or infusion nursing.
- Lidocaine or ketamine infusions.
- Procedural nursing, recovery care, or post-anesthesia care.
- Emergency, surgical, or ambulatory-care nursing.
- Chronic pain, spine care, or image-guided procedural clinics.
Previous pain-clinic experience is not required. Nurses with relevant transferable experience are encouraged to apply.

Pay: $38.00-$48.00 per hour
