Job Summary
The Purchase Manager is responsible for planning, sourcing, negotiating, and managing the procurement of raw materials, components, packaging, machinery, and services required for manufacturing operations. The role ensures timely availability of materials, cost optimization, quality compliance, and supplier performance while maintaining inventory targets and supporting production schedules.
Key ResponsibilitiesProcurement \& Sourcing
- Develop and implement procurement strategies to support production and business objectives.
- Source and evaluate local and international suppliers.
- Obtain competitive quotations and negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and contracts.
- Ensure timely procurement of raw materials, finished goods, machinery, spare parts, and consumables.
Supplier Management
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships.
- Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, cost, delivery, and service.
- Conduct supplier audits and periodic performance reviews.
- Develop alternative suppliers to reduce supply chain risks.
Inventory \& Material Planning
- Coordinate with Production, Planning, Warehouse, and Sales teams to forecast material requirements.
- Maintain optimum inventory levels while minimizing excess and obsolete stock.
- Monitor reorder levels and supplier lead times.
- Ensure uninterrupted material availability for production.
Cost Control
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through strategic sourcing and negotiations.
- Analyze purchase trends and market prices.
- Monitor procurement budgets and achieve annual cost reduction targets.
- Reduce logistics and freight costs where possible.
Purchase Operations
- Review and approve purchase requisitions and purchase orders.
- Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and approval limits.
- Track purchase orders until delivery.
- Resolve supplier delivery and quality issues promptly.
Quality \& Compliance
- Work closely with QA/QC to ensure purchased materials meet quality standards.
- Ensure procurement complies with company policies and applicable regulations.
- Maintain complete procurement documentation and supplier records.
Team Management
- Lead and mentor the purchasing team.
- Allocate responsibilities and monitor performance.
- Conduct performance reviews and identify training needs.
Reporting \& Analysis
- Prepare monthly procurement reports and KPIs.
- Analyze supplier performance, purchasing spend, inventory turnover, and cost savings.
- Present procurement performance to management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field
Experience
- 8–12 years of procurement experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 3–5 years in a managerial role.
- Experience with international sourcing, import/export procedures, and supplier negotiations.
- Experience purchasing raw materials, machinery, packaging, and industrial components.
Technical Skills
- ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Odoo, Zoho, or similar)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel
