Purchase Engineer / Procurement Engineer – Mechanical Workshop
Job Description

2000 Workshop W.L.L. is a precision machining and metal fabrication company specializing in custom mechanical components, industrial equipment repair, and structural fabrication. We deliver high-tolerance engineering solutions for heavy industry, marine, and manufacturing sectors.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Purchase Engineer to bridge technical workshop requirements with global and local supply chains. You will analyze technical drawings, bill of materials (BOMs), and raw material specifications to source high-grade metals, CNC tooling, and subcontracted services. This role demands a balance of mechanical engineering knowledge, vendor negotiation, and strict quality compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Sourcing: Read 2D/3D engineering drawings, CAD models, and BOMs to identify required raw material specifications (steel grades, heat treatments, plates, bars) and precision machining tooling.
  • Supplier \& Subcontractor Evaluation: Identify, vet, and manage certified vendors for raw materials, heat treatment, surface finishing, non-destructive testing (NDT), and 3rd-party inspections.
  • Cost Optimization \& RFQs: Issue detailed RFQs, evaluate technical/commercial bids, and negotiate favorable prices, lead times, and payment terms to maximize project margins.
  • Material Compliance: Review Material Test Reports (MTRs), Mill Test Certificates (MTCs), and heat numbers to ensure full traceability and compliance with international standards (ASTM, DIN, ISO, BS).
  • PO \& Inventory Coordination: Generate Purchase Orders (POs), resolve supply delays, and liaise with workshop storekeepers to verify incoming material quality.

Qualifications \& Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.
  • Experience: 3+ years as a Purchase Engineer, Procurement Engineer, or Technical Estimator in a machine shop, steel fabrication facility, or mechanical manufacturing plant.
  • Technical Skills: Strong ability to read mechanical drawings and familiarity with engineering materials (alloy steels, stainless steel, wear-resistant plates, tool steels).
  • Software: Proficient in ERP/MRP systems (ZOHO) and MS Excel for data analysis.
  • Negotiation \& Analytical Skills: Proven ability to manage supply chain risks, reduce procurement costs, and negotiate technical terms.
